Definitely good for AI. Might be good to add Munich to the list.

I don't see how the article says it will be a boon for Air India. They are only operating 14 out of the 32 allowed flights. I think the government of India needs to chill about granting increased frequencies to countries where excess capacity already exists (LH is using these flights from US pax). It should give time (and by time I mean a year or so) to let Indian carriers establish themselves. I don't really get the GOI's strategy to let UK, French, German, US carriers receive massive increases in capacity all in the same year before Indian carriers really have a chance to fly abroad. They might as well grant SQ's 210 flights requested and give EK and Qatar what they want as well. Who's left that I forgot? I guess its feast or famine when India is involved.

What are AI, Jet, Sahara saying about all this? Hopfully they are the one's pushing for the increased frequencies.

Well increasing US carrier frequencies is a necessary requirement for gaining an increase in frequencies for Indian carriers to better serve the US-India O&D market. But I agree that giving Germany (read LH) and France increased frequencies doesn't make sense since much of the traffic to and from India that they carry doesn't originate from either of those countries but from the US and UK.

But perhaps S2 can benefit from the increased German frequencies, since they codesharing with UA

The current bilaterals allow 16 frequencies on each side with a cap of 6400 seats. LH is using all of their entitlements plus unused entitlements of AI and some provisional entitlements allowed by GOI.

This increased frequency could be good for AI when they acquire additional aircrafts to make FRA their scissor hub. This will allow AI to offer flights from southern cities, MAA-BLR-HYD, to FRA, and therefore provide one-stop onward connections to USA. They already codeshare with LH, and together they can be a formidable competitor for India-USA market.

The fifty frequencies on each side, translates to a capacity of 2 million between India-Frankfurt! That is enough to meet a big chunk of present India-USA traffic (About 2.5 million).

Good news for both sides.
LH to have 42 by Winter 2005 and 50 by summer 2006. DEL can have 20 flights (by winter 2006).

So I guess final oucome may be something like this

DEL FRA - 14 weekly
DEL MUC - 6 WEEKLY
BOM/BLR/MAA/HYD - FRA - 7 each

So that leaves 2 more - I guess that may go to Condor for GOI?

I guess COK will e served one stop via BOM or MAA by AI.

Incidentally how is the designation - Is it changed to MULtiPLE or is it still Dual?
