AF's B773ER On CDG-BEY This Summer

Fri May 27, 2005 12:21 am

I came back to Paris on AF565 two days ago on May 24th and I was surprised to board at BEY one of the brand new AF's B777-300ER.

AF566/AF565 CDG-BEY-CDG were tests flights on that day to promote the new AF's First and Business Class to the Lebanese customers.

It was said that AF could use regularly the B773ER to BEY this summer to boost its capacity in J and Y : The B773ER are configured with 8P/67J/235Y against 12P/58J/202Y for the B772ER.

AF will also offer an additional flight (AF562/561) with a B772ER on Fridays during the highest peak of the summer season from June 28 to early sept.

Next winter, the B772ER will be replaced on Tu./Sa/Su.by an A343. It will reduce the offer in J (30J iso 58J) but will increase the offer in Y from 202Y to 261Y, as the a/c used for this flight will be equipped with the new seats configuration (30J/261Y).

Actually, the third flight is operated with the 332. This is an excellent mix.

Well, I flew AF348 last April 29th and AF349 on April 30 and it was an A343 both legs ... Both flights were full with 3 non rev on jumpseat.
On AF349, about 10 non rev. PAX couldn't board and stayed on the ground...

I think AF switch from A343 to A332 on certain days, according to the booking, that was one of the interest to operate both a/c types.

AF had "only" two flights in April, operated by 77W/343.

The AF summer sked in YUL started in the second week of May. The 332 has operated AF348/349 since then.

The sked shows AF348/349 with a 332 until mid-October but I guess it could be switched to the A343 if need be!

Still, 1000 seats/day is quite impressive! I was on AF344 earlier this week, and the flight was full too.

Why the 773 to LAD? Isn't that an ex-Portugese colony? Where does the demand come from?

Good question. I know AF has a codeshare partnership with TAAG, which operates the B747 LAD-CDG.

LAD is a very high-yielding market, and the Angolan Government restricts operations in LAD. I'm sure AF, BA and TP would operate daily to LAD. However, due to restrictions, these airlines only fly to LAD 3/4 weekly flights.

It's only a once a week flight and there is a small Angolan community in France(from Cabinda?) even though it was a Portuguese colony as you say.The oil industry accounts for a high % of traffic though.

OIL. A single word. Plenty of oil & gas in Angola. This keeps the BA and AF flight full.

Why Luanda ?

Oil.

And the highest yield of ALL AF's network.

The codeshare agreement AF/TAAG has ended.
AF was operating a B772ER on the route and wanted to add frequencies, but did not receive authorizations from the Angola Government, so the weekly frequency was upgraded last year to a B773ER. Full flight every week.

KL does not fly to all oil destinations. AF has a more comprehensive network for oild destinations (including nonstop to GIG, RUH, JED to name a few). In addition, AF has a specific FF programme for the oil industry called Petroleum Club. I would say that AF and Continental are the airlines of the oil industry per se.

The following are AF's Petroleum Club destinations:

Abidjan, Abu Dhabi, Amman, Atlanta, Bangkok, Beirut, Beijing, Bombay, Boston, Brazzaville, Buenos Aires, Cairo, Caracas, Cincinnati, Cotonou, Damascus, Douala, Dubai, Hong Kong, Houston, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Kinshasa, Lagos, Libreville, Lome, Luanda, Manila, Mexico, Miami, N'Djamena, New York, Niamey, Nouakchott, Port Harcourt, Rio de Janeiro, Riyadh, Santiago, Sao Paulo, Shanghai, Singapore and Yaounde.

Hello FlySSC

I've seen an AF B777-300ER at gate 23 in BEY Monday 9th of May. It must have been for the high demand on BEY-CDG as people were returning to Paris after welcoming general Aoun in Beirut.

Since you travel a lot to BEY: Why does AF park their planes at gate 23 with the boarding gate at the first door? Is that to let the F class pax out first?
MEA uses the second door on its A332 and it is faster to board and disembark.

Good question MEA330 !!!

I really don't know... I doubt it is only to let the P Class pax first out.
AF was used to park on the opposite side just a few years ago, with the A310...

Now, you are right, it's almost always gate 23, sometimes 25.

Wow!

I can't wait to take some good pics of the 773ER this summer in BEY!!!

It must be something to see those huge GE90-115B engines!

During winter times, I'm sure the other guys will take some pics of the A343s!

It's good to have some variety in the mix of aircrafts AF brings to BEY

AF doesn't fly yet to Kish Island : No traffic rights granted by the Iranian Authorities for the moment...

But you can add to the list : Malabo (SSG), Pointe Noire (PNR), Tashkent (TAS), and Tehran (THR).

All served by the A319ER "Dedicate" service, except THR (A332).

FlySSC,

wonderful news. AF really stands out on the BEY route in comparison to the other European airlines that simply use their small A32S/B737 and come in during the night.

Is anything out yet on which days exactly or during which weeks AF will use the 777-300 on the BEY route? Was this an exception, or will there be a pattern? I am going back and forth about 4-5 times this summer, mostly in C (twice in F), so that would be phantastic...

Cheers

There is indeed no Gate 25  tired  but BEY has in fact only 21 gates, and not 23.

Mozart,

Quite a few flights were already operated by the B773ER in May.
The program still mentions the B772ER Daily but it's very easy for AF to switch from a B772ER to B773ER according to the booking and/or aircraft availabilities :
same Cockpit and Cabin Crew, so the swap is often odne at the last minute, most often at D-1 though in July & August, the B773ER could appear regularly in the program.

True, gates 4 & 22 are bus boarding gates which are not used often as the terminals are never at full capacity.
