I am still in shock that I received this email today. Most flight attendants have been talking about having to do CHAOS since negotiations haven't been getting anywhere... Very interesting.
From our AFA President Veda Shook:
On Monday, May 23rd, AFA MEC President Veda Shook; Managing Director, Inflight ,Jeff Butler; and CEO Bill Ayer had an impromptu lunch meeting in Seattle prior to a previously scheduled quarterly labor coalition roundtable. Bill wanted to learn more about the status of our negotiations and the remaining issues at our bargaining table. Together, we all realized just how close we had come towards a new tentative agreement. Bill expressed his concern at our lack of scheduled dates and committed all resources necessary on the management side towards reaching a tentative agreement. Jeff asked Veda if it was possible for the negotiating committee to meet with management before our previously scheduled dates, June 7-9. The MEC was already in Seattle for the labor coalition meeting, and agreed to negotiate the following day (Tuesday).
We met as agreed. After marathon sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday, we are pleased to announce that we have reached a general understanding on the terms of a new tentative agreement. We will be meeting next week on June 1st and 2nd and again during our regularly scheduled session on June 7-9 to reduce the agreed-upon concepts to contract language. As soon as we have finalized the language, we will present the entire tentative agreement to the MEC and then to the Flight Attendants. At that time, we will also publish the roadshow schedule and ratification timetable.
We appreciate your support and patience during this process. We will keep you informed throughout this period.
