Any Airlines Besides AS Flying The B. 732 Combi?

Fri May 27, 2005 7:08 am

It was reported last fall that AS was going to convert some of thier 734s into a combi config to begin replacing the aging 732 combi models. It appears they have backed off this plan and put it on hold over some financial issues. But my question is, does any other airlines fly these 737-combi? Anyone else have the chance to fly on these?
Living in rural Alaska these models are commonly known as "the jet" because in my town and many others in the rural areas we are mostly served by turboprobs and the jet comes once a day. AS currently has 7 in thier fleet and I believe all are based in ANC
Its always a treat climbing into the back door of the old AS bird and only having 4 rows of seats with the front section all cargo. Your thoughts and knowledge is appreciated.

I flown a few of the AS combi flight over the years, including the southeast milk run between JNU-PSG-WRG-KTN-SEA and have never seen less than fifteen rows of seats.

In that your flight only had four rows tells me the bulkheads are adjustable and can be moved to either accommodate more pax or cargo.  yes

I wish Alaska Air would & could get the 737-790C, but it's my understanding the FAA won't allow any more new-built combis for US-based carriers. Something about a safety issue...I don't know all the details about it. But it's sure is cool to know that the mighty little 732 Combi is still around. One of the best little workhorse out there still earning its keep.  Wink Regards.

Well thanks so much guys, it was my first post on A.net im glad you responded. I love a few other airlines are still using them. I dont want them to go away. Something about seeing the reverse thrust clamp down on the engines when they land gets me, especially in a hard rain, its dramatic to see the water get shot everwhere.

and yes Gent the bulkhead can be moved. I have had 10 rows down to 4 either or, but I love the 73200 combi its a great plane that serves much of AK and unless it is an updated version id hate to see it go. So i encourage AS to only replace the 732 combi with a better version. Thanks all
