Virgin Atlantic Flight 8 LAX-LHR - Question

Sat May 28, 2005 4:49 pm

Trying to find out the chances of upgrading to upper class from economy...for VS 8 LAX-LHR this coming Monday, the 30th of May. Can anyone give me some info on how many available seats there are for that flight and as a result, what the chances of upgrading with miles are assuming early enough arrival at the airport?

Thanks in advance - Air Liban

Depending on your ticket, specifically if any net rates are available from LAX on your current fare ticket, the price for upgd is going to range from between GBP699 - GBP2500 one-way, roughly.

The current availability is

J7 D7 Z7 W0 S0 K0 Y5 B5 L5 M5 Q5 X1 N0

Which means the Premium Economy cabin already looks oversold, so they may need to take some the Upper Class seats to accomodate. This may reduce your chances, but only slightly.

Upgrading with miles (30,000 required one way) will require a qualifying Economy ticket to start with (Y, B or L class). If you haven't got one of those, you can ask to upgrade to that level with cash, then use you miles. The price will depend on where you're starting from.

Thank you gentlemen. It's actually for a buddy of mine, he bought his economy ticket in some fare class which will allow him to upgrade if there is availability.

So does that mean that there are 14 available seats in Upper Class? If that is the case...it looks like his chances are quite good? Assuming they need to upgrade 8 passengers from PE to UC, does that then mean there are 6 seats left for upgrade awards at the last minute?

Also, on a related note, does anyone know if Virgin will be planning any mid-summer special offers on Upper Class from the US to the UK?

No, it means there are 7 or more seats available to buy in Upper - J, D & Z (not necessarily the same a physical seats left on the aircraft), and no seats left in Premium - W, S & K. The true extent of the availability isn't shown in the GDS systems.

Having said that, if your friend does indeed have an Economy seat in either Y, B or L, and enough miles in his account, then he has a pretty good chance of upgrading. Just get to the airport early in case a bunch of others have the same plan.
