Will USAirways Ever Paint Their MD-80s?

What are US's plans for their new paint schemes on MD-80s? Will they ever sport the best color scheme in the industry? I hope they will!

I have been asking myself the same question for nearly 3 years now since USAir became USAirways. US has some 34 MD-80's in service. In that time, I can't fathom NONE of them not having gone through C and D checks, which is when a/c usually get (re)painted. Since US has all those A319's and A320's coming in, ostensibly to replace the -80's, and the fact that NONE of the -80's have been repainted leads me to believe that none of them will. After all, why spend the extra money on that more lavish paint job for an a/c that is slated for removal?

That is the same question for their 737-200s.
I haven't seen any of them in the new livery.
So I think they are just going to keep moving those out to Metrojet as the new ones come in.

FYI: They have 31 MD80's,not 34 and the planes are NOT painted in the new livery during checks--that goes for the whole fleet. Painting is done by a contractor in Miss. A/C in "old" liveries in heavy checks emerge from checks in fresh "old" livery paint (most of which is decal anyway),replete with brillinatly polished Alclad fuselages and leading edges. Even if they are not yet scheduled for new livery paint, they still have to look good. I have not the foggiest notion when (or if) the MD80's will be painted in the new scheme.

Rumor has it that they might trade them in along with some older DC-9s & Fokker 100s to Boeing for some new 717s.
