Sun Country has a deal with Transavia to lease some of their aircraft for the winter months when Sun Country's business booms with people from Minnesota wanting to get out of the cold and go to all of the warm destinations in Mexico.

Cancidas,

They have a similar deal with South African: in fact PH-HZU is operating now with Transavia titles and -tailcolours (rest is white), and is the only winglet operating 737-800 at the moment; during the winter-period, HV is leasing out some -800's to SA for their demand  Wink

And the PH-HZZ is doing the same (thus two South African 737-800s are flying for HV)

the odd thing is that while HV leases two 737s, they've leased out one 737 to KLM (will fly for HV during July and August). They needed the Sun County 737 as they leased one 737 to KLM and one to Air Berlin which returned recently. The Sun Country 737 has been returned to Sun Country a few days ago.

There are a lot of similar relationships between European and North American charter carriers. Excel Airways has similar deals with Miami Air and Zoom Airlines, First Choice Airways and MyTravel with Skyservice Airlines, Thomas Cook with USA 3000 and Ryan International, Futura with Ryan International etc.

You all are correct. 807 (the Spirit of Braniff) is home and back to flying with us.

I thought the SCY Hybrids were ugly but when Transavia takes a SCY bird and uses it their hybrids are worse! I hope those are stickers that are put over the big "S" on the tail!
Hey that guy with the private jet can bail us out! Why? HE CAN AFFORD IT!

NIKV69 807 is back to normal, and yes they were stickers. Our MX had 807 back flying for us the day after she came back.

I think it is great how these small carriers can think outside the box and find solutions that work and are cost effective for both parties.

It´s been standard procedure for quite a while and for a number of carriers (see reply #5)

Air Europe started this exchange of fleets with Air Florida in the early 80s and it was very new idea in those days.

They swapped 737s with Air Florida as AE and Air Florida had differing busy seasons. AE sent a 732 over the pond in winter and Air Florida sent a 732 over to AE for our Summer season.

After the Barcelona incident with PH-BTC KL needed a replacement. It was probably the cheapest way to take one from HV (owned by KL) and let HV lease one from Sun Country instead of letting KL lease on from Sun directly. HV has/had already leased out 7 of their 737 to Sun during the winter.

The Transavia plane which flies for KLM nowadays is primary used on the route between AMS and IST ! Anybody knows why? Kind of charter destination for KLM?

Aircraft I mean is PH-HZM :

it probably didn't get the businessclass/klm pitch and still has the full 189 Y in transavia config. and IST is probably a destination where they actually can use such a config..

I had read that response and my comment was on the fact that carriers did this in effort to help each other and most important to help the bottom line.

PH-HZM is in the normal KLM-config with HV-seats (168 or 172 can't remember), standard HV-config 737-800 is 186 seats
