Differences Between The EK 773 And EK332

Mon May 30, 2005 2:17 pm

This summer, I'm flying LHR-DXB-NBO. The LHR-DXB segment is operated by a 773 and the DXB-NBO segment is operated by a 332. What are the differences between the 773 and the 332? Does the 332 have smaller PTV's? From looking at the pictures, it seems as if some A332 aircraft and 773 aircraft have the same interior, but some 773 aircraft seem to have an interior different from the 332. Do the 773's that operate LHR-DXB have the newer interior or the A332 like interior?

All of EKs B773s are fairly new and every B777 cabin has the Signature Class interior, B777s are the only EK fleet member to have the Signature Interior. The B777s are the only airliner to ever receive an award for their interiors.

I think I went on a B772 rather than a B773... in any case, comparing a B777 and an A332, the interiors didn't appear any different. Same seats, same PTVs, same choice of channels, same cameras, same great legroom, same great service. Yes, the B777 has 10 seats across, and no it's not noticeable - the seats widths are about 5mm less.

Ignore my comments if the B773 is that much different from the B772!

Y class seating, meals, service, PTV etc is pretty much the same across the 773 and 332. The only difference being the newer 773 having the ICE (500 Channel) IFE. The only uncomfortable thing is getting the window seat on the 777 (3-4-3 config). Climbing over 2 pax to get to the toilet can be a pain, especially on overnight flights. no noticeable difference in seat pitch, width.

In J the 332 is streets ahead of the 777. The seat is more comfortable and has more legroom. For some reason it just seems more difficult to get comfortable in the 777 J seat.

In addition the 332 cabin is a lot quieter than the 777, for whatever reason, across the whole a/c.

That sounds very interesting. I have to look (hear) at that on my next EK trip.....
Is there somebody else who noticed this?

I agree with EKGold , flying both A332 and B777 . My preference is with the A332 because of the quiet cabin and the more comfortable cabin layout , 2-4-2 rather then 3-4-3 on the 777. Which do you prefer ? It's your choice.

What I noticed was, that the A332 (EK) made a more or less loud noise when the pilot pushed the brakes. (I think all A330/340 doing that noise) In the first moment you think there is something broken, because the noise is not even silent and sounded even a bit strange, compared to other a/c sounds. (Flaps/Slats actuator, landing gear actuator etc.) I sat really close to the landing gear btw.

That's interesting Glidepath73. There seems to be a lot of "clunking" when the 330/340 taxis and breaks on landing. can any pilots explain that?

Last year I flew MAN-DXB on the A330-200, and DXB-LGW on the 777-300. I think i preferred the 773, althought the economy interiors did not seem to be any different from eachother. Larger PTV's on the 777 though, if i remember rightly...

In economy class atleast there is no difference between the two--same interiors/IFE/ same set of movies and as mentioned above even the same camera view.

Having flown on their 772 and A332 i would prefer the 2-4-2 seating of the A332 any day.

I have not been in J class so i cant comment on that

I flew an NZ A320 last year and it seemed to do the same things as the A330/A340, as well as more bumpy while taxing. Is this normal on all Airbus models

I all these cramped horrible economy classes (of all airlines) every mm is important. 5mm IS noticeable. I would never ever fly an airlines with 10 abreast in economy in the 777 or 9 abreast in the 330/340.

i flew CX from SIN to HKG in March in a 3-3-3 777. Cant say the seat was any more comfortable than the EK 3-4-3 seat.

the IFE does not depend on the aircraft type......

actually it's true that the 777 is much louder if compared to the A330/A340 family

It is! In these cattle classes every mm is important (width and legroom). The seat width with a normal 3-3-3 or 2-5-2 is already very bad! That is why I boycott these seatings. BTW I am not too big.

When you shrink a seat from 18" to 17" (25mm), that is a real difference. Most 3-3-3 777s have the 18" seat. Also, the aisle shrinks on these planes too. But doesn't EK have a good pitch compared to some airlines?

I think I would take 17"/34" to 18"/31" on most flights, especially if the plane isn't full and I could find a seat with nobody next to me.

On the 330, that would be due to the fact that the engines are smaller. On the 340, that would be due to the fact that the outboard engines have the benefit of the inverse square law.

Flying back and forth between the UK and Kuwait, I prefer the 773 to the 332 because of the seat pitch, it is considerably more. The width of the seat is not really that noticeable. Don't recall there being any difference in the size of the PTV's...

I flew MAN-DXB on a A330, Then DXB-BNE on B777 last year.
The airbus does have a quieter cabin but the PTV's are larger on the B777. Apart from that they seemed the same to me.
