It has been planned for some time. I believe it will operate AUH-BRU-YYZ. I'm not sure whether or not they will be free to sell tickets on the BRU-YYZ-BRU sectors, although I suspect this is the plan - can anyone confirm?

I have a feeling that they will use the A340-300 on route instead of the A330.

I heard from several sources that SN Brussels Airlines are going to do the sales for BRU-YYZ-BRU passengers.

And October is also the date I heard circulating...

Oct 31st is what EYs Guest Affairs Manager in AUH has said is the starting date of the route and it will be A 332s flying AUH-BRU-YYZ 3 times a week initially.

Let's wait and see. AFAIK Etihad has no ETOPS experience and maybe they could be obliged to fly the A343 at first.
Spotting wise here at BRU, an A340 would be great to us !!  Wink
I really hope SNBA and EY will soon become partner.

I'm not sure this should make a massive difference. From a flight planning point of view, they may have to contract this out to another carrier, i.e. Lufthansa, who issue the ETOPS flight plans for bmi, for example.

Well AFAIK, ETOPS is a certification. So the airline has to prove its capability to fly in such conditions.
3 years ago when VG Airlines was flying from BRU to NYC/BOS and LAX they had this major ETOPS problem with the A332s though they were flying with ex-Sabena planes and crews. They a probe period before it got granted but as a result they were flying 45 minutes longer than AA and DL on the BRU-JFK route !!

Yes EY doesnt have 5th freedom traffic rights on this route but it is codesharing with SN who will be selling the seats for them.

EY is hopeful that yields out of BRU will be high as it will be the only Arab airline flying there plus perhaps the only Asian one too? Am I right or wrong or does another Asian airline fly to BRU?

Don't forget that Jet Airways will launch its BOM-BRU-EWR service "anytime soon"... And that negociations are still on the way to have a chinese route before the end of 2005.

But indeed coming to BRU is a very smart move from EY.

Finally we can admire some possible activity out of BRU. It will be really nice if EY is working together with SN on these routes. We could see a strategic partnership arise. Let's hope Jet Airways materializes, as well as that Chinese route. And why wouldn't SQ return to BRU?

BRU cannot support dozens of flights to Asia but I think that links to North Asia, North East Asia, South Asia & South East Asia are viable.

I hope EY don't send the 343 to YYZ and BRU because they will be stealing her away from LGW Big grin

Good luck EY!

Well, I would think that Tunisair, RAM, Air Algérie and Egyptair all qualify as Arab airlines!

The major difference is that ETIHAD won't be a dry airline when it comes to inflight service.

Will EK still have the chance of flying to YYZ despite Ethiad flying to Toronto?

I see no reason why EK would not make a bigger success of YYZ than EY. Emirates operates a more global network and would be able to provide convenient connections to/from South Asia and East Africa. Etihad operates a MUCH smaller network with few frequencies.

Would anyone connect from YYZ to East Africa on EK or EY? The flight seems like it is primarily meant for Canada - South Asia and Iran traffic.

Current Canada-UAE bilateral agreement only allows for one carrier from each country to operate flights between the countries. So unless the bilateral is amended, EY starting a route to Canada (YYZ) would effectively block EK out of Canada.

In this case, that YYZ-AUH service would defenitly be a smart move from EY !!
