SCY - The Air Scandic Fleet

Thu Jun 02, 2005 4:31 am

Hi,

After seeing an Air Scandic Aircraft at East Midlands last weekend, I have decided to clarify some information on the fleet for this Airline, as there has been some confusion in the past. All this information is direct from a source.

I will try and make this as clear as possible:

WINTER 2004/2005

  • 1 MD-83 based at Manchester Airport

    SUMMER 2005

  • Nottingham East Midlands Airport - 2 MD-83's Big grin Big grin (Looking forward to seeing these!)

  • London Stansted Airport- 1 MD-83

  • Birmingham - Air Scandic will operate flights between Birmingham and Rhodes and Kalamata using a Boeing 757 (leased Finnair) or an MD-83.

  • Manchester - 2 Boeing 757's (leased Finnair)

  • There will be flights to Orlando Sanford from:Manchester, Newcastle, Glasgow, Belfast utilising a single Boeing 757 with 227 seats.

There are 2 MD-83's currently in the fleet:

  • SE-RDF
  • SE-RDH The Aircraft I had the joy of seeing at Nottingham East Midlands, this was my best Photo from the Day!

There we are then, any questions, please ask, as I can find out a load of information on Air Scandic.

    Regards, Ryan  bigthumbsup

Great photo.I didnt realise Air Scandic had put their titles on that MD83. I love the cheapo Air Scandic, pity those old A300B4s arent still with us coz I loved seeing them and their cheesy sunburst livery.

Glad to see though that now the A300s have gone, they are sticking with some older equipment by getting in the MD83s.

After all the boring 320,321s filling the charter sector, its nice to see SCY bringing some 'character'.

Pity they didnt see through their plans at one time to get hold of the DC10-30 of MYT, that would have suited SCY and their old aircraft and reputation for delays!

    I love you Air Scandic.

I like your topics Ryan, we have a lot in common it seems.

You and AirEuropeUK733 are becoming my favourite people with your posts and topics.

feel free to keep in touch, Signal One. I liked your photo in the photo section too Ryan!!!!

I am very pleased with Air Scandic decision to base 2 MD-83's at East Midlands, after seeing a Viking Airlines MD-83, a Dubrovnik Airline MD-83, it is fast becoming my favourite aircraft!

We do have alot in common, and I have flown Charter all my life, apart from once with VS. I don't have any other experiances, I am more interseted in the Charters than British Airways and the like, they are just more interesting, just look at all the things that have happened in the last few years:

  • MyTravel Brand, and money issues, as well as fleet cuts
  • Britannia Brand destroyed
  • JMC turned into Thomas Cook
  • New Monarch Livery
  • air2000 into First Choice Airways
  • Plus many more....

All the things that have happened at MyTravel in the last few years have been very interesting (and sad), and there are not many other Airlines which are so varied!

Something I wipped up today complete with MyTravel A330, looking back, it aint that bad, but I am very tired though (exams)!

Which destinations do the Air Scandic titled MD83s fly to from EMA? I am booking a last minute holiday in the next few days and would love to drop on one of those MD83s instead of another bloody 320/321!

A shame Air Scandic arnt getting a new livery to put on these aircraft!

Can a fully loaded 757 make it to SFB direct or will they stop in Bangor or somewhere?

That one I am not sure about, I may be able to find out tomorrow at the Travel Agents, or when I have a proper source. I have heard Libra Holidays mentioned, but I am sure that's Excel. Best off waiting for some confirmation, but they must be operating for someone?

I think its non-stop, for example,

    SCY6611 Boeing 757

  • Departs Glasgow at 09:30
  • Arrives Orlando Sanford 13:30

This would be a 9/10 hour flight, and so not enough time for a stop, and there is no mention from Air Scandic of a stop, so I think that, yes, it will make it to SFB direct.

    Hope that helps!

Last time I went on an MD-83 was Airtours, when I was 2 or 3 or 4!

There's no photo of SE-RDH on this site yet, this from the Swedish aircraft registry:

    SE-RDH
    Luftfartygstyp DOUGLAS DC-9-83
    Tillverkningsnr 49949
    Tillverkningsår 1991
    Max startvikt (kg) 72575
    Luftvärdig tom 2006-05-31
    Registreringsdatum 2005-05-12

Interestingly, the a/c is listed as "airworthy" from 31 May, so the spotting action was quick!

    From planespotters.net:

Reg Aircraft Type Airline Delivery Date Remarks
G-RJER McDonnell Douglas MD-83 Airtours International Airways 30.09.1991 lsd from GPA
N882RA McDonnell Douglas MD-83 Reno Air 18.05.1996 lsd from GPA
N882RA McDonnell Douglas MD-83 American Airlines 31.08.1999 mgd
TC-FBT McDonnell Douglas MD-83 Freebird Airlines 20.06.2002 lsd

    Thanks for the information!

I have submitted it to the database, a screener said it was worth an upload.  Smile

I find that amazing that I got a Photo so quick, I Photographed it on Sunday 29th May, 2 days before the aircraft was declared airworthy! WOW! I am really looking forward to these Air Scandic's at East Midlands now!

The reason why these two MD-83's SE-RDH, and SE-RDF are not on the U.K register is because, according to www.jethros.i12.com , they are being operated by the Swedish Viking Airlines.

Thanks for your input Eilennaei!  bigthumbsup

Good old SCY and their clip-art titles. I've been longing to see them on an MD83, I've been searching the database for a couple of months. Shame we only have the Finnair B752 at NCL, instead of the SCY livery this summer. Im sure Freedom FLights used to sell SCY flights last year, but have a strong feeling it's only XLA flights they sell this year.

    ALCREGULAR:

I also do believe that the flights are sold by excel aviation to various tour ops. I think LocoFlights / Freedom Flights use them.
I do know that they MD83 that is due to be based at STN is operating on behalf of Airtours Holidays since we closed our STN base down.

Hope that helps a bit more

I went on one up to KEF for a day trip when AIH used to do those in the winter. The approach was rather hairy as there was a very blustery cross wind. Rep on the ground didn't think we were going to make it !!

I also went on one to Berlin for the day - I remember there being 5 or 6 on the ground from different UK airports; I assume that this was how they kept their fleet in the air in the slow winter months?
