No surprises with 1st place, but how about QF moving to 2nd!!!

I think that, with recent service improvements, it is now justified. What do you think?

I flew Qantas back in September 2004. The service was very good. Also very friendly. Hot food and alcohol are back for domestic flights. So I think they have improved a lot.

CX is no doubt, excellent.

Malaysia Airlines did very well too. And they have been awarded 5 star.

Congratulations QF! They are a great airline find them much better than EK... bit disapointed with the SQ results.

Interesting results I guess...

Firstly, no surprises with CX at all. A very good airline and always will be one of the worlds best.

QF coming in second is a bit of a surprise considering it is in my view no where near the class of service offered by SQ, EK or CX. However a good result for QF and they will hope to build on that reputation now.

EK in third just proves that they are becoming a very good airline regardless of their expansion plans etc. Really the quality of their service is very good.

Thai making it to 7th? Well, personally I don't think they are that good but I guess its the rating system!

Cheers!

Hmmmm , that's not a surprising result , CX deserved first place , TG and MH deserved top notch ! SQ dropped I am not surprised because of the inconsistent reviews about them from my friends I heard. Emirates are still the top airline for me , better then CX after flying with them last year but no comment about Qantas which I hope to fly with them one day.

Please refer to my other thread. Malaysia Airlines is now 5 star.

EK was number 1 back in 2002 and no 2 last year. They dropped to no 3 this year.

Thai is always rated high. Guess they were no 5 last year.

I've flown on EK one too many times, from the 1990's to last year (on 1/2 dozen or so routes)..and I've found their service to be going down each year......aside from the prayer room (for Muslims) @ DXB, I'm not too keen on the airport either....

This year, I plan on flying to Pakistan on CX (SFO-HKG-KHI)...it will be my first time on CX and I'm quite excited!!

Lastly, for price/performance, I have to tip my hat to PK (yes, its true...)..while their business class isn't as good as some of the other "top notch" majours such as SQ and CX (but still excellent for even the most demanding business pax), for $2,300 US dollars (including taxes) roundtrip from ORD-KHI...its absolutely amazing! They have brand new 777's and the pilots are very, very good (many of them used to be fighter pilots with the Pakistan Airforce..so they are very skilled).

In fact, I will try to be on the inaugural 777-200LR flight, which will be PK's IAH-LHE/KHI flight... bigthumbsup

I am sure their business class is not as good as CX's and SQ's. But how is it like? Do they have PTVs in their B 747-300 economy???? Also B 777?

I am sure PK is ok.

Guys,

Please refer to Cathay Pacific's press release which was released sometime ago: http://www.cathaypacific.com/intl/ab.../press/0,3845,31342-125882,00.html

We still have the BEST IFE subaward to be announced.

ANA is not bad. Haven't been on Qatar and Asiana so I can't comment. But from what I heard the service is average.

I can't compare CX with the other listed airlines, but I was very impressed with the service and overall product. Still haven't flown SQ but surprised to see it drop to 4. I always thought SQ, EK and CX were the top 3.

Well done CX and Qantas, but I think SQ should be in the top 3 as well as BA. One thing we and all the thousands of voters in the survey have agreed on is that NONE of the US majors deserve to be anywhere close to the top of any of these lists. This is reflected in the results and, in my opnion, fully justified.

SQ and BA are very top too. No question.

What about Continental? Continental is pretty good I think. They won a few awards this year including a best airline award.

2) Qantas
3) Emirates
4) Singapore Airlines
5) British Airways
6) Malaysia Airlines
7)Thai Airways

Its interesting to see that star alliance has 3 airlines in that top 7, Oneworld 2, and skyteam with sadly none. Isnt MH supposedly to go to either skyteam or oneworld soon? Its also a testament to the quality of the Star alliance, if you take these surveys w/o a grain of salt, that the best airline in North America (Air Canada) is in the alliance, and the best airline in Africa (SAA) will be shortly.

Is anyone a little confused with the Europe airline rankings? 1) British Airways 2) PGA Portugalia Airlines 3) Finnair ... does it rlly make sense to compare such smaller airlines with the big boys that offer a vast network. I think the network of the airlines should be included in some way in these surveys.

Either way... AC #1, 2008  Wink

I don't think Emirates is in any alliance.

MH will probably join Skyteam I think. Or have they announced that they will join Skyteam? I WISH they Star or One World.

Air New Zealand, Lufthansa, SAA, Virgin Atlantic etc are all good airlines. A pity that they are not on the list....

Air New Zealand was on the list last year if I remember correctly...... Hope they will be back again once they have started taking deliveries of new aircraft and when they have finished upgrading their long haul product

Great ranks. CX truly deserved the spot. An absolute domination by Asia-Pacific region - 9 of top 10! I can see why SQ has slipped given my mixed experience on their recent flights. Surprised to see EK do so well - they have never been impressive to me.

Which newcomer do you think has the best potential to break this consistent top performing group? I think 9W. Any thoughts?

Excellent result for QF when you think about it.

They are the only airline in the top 4 who has a domestic operation,
only top 4 airline to operate from more than 1 hub city, only airline in the top 4 to fly narrowbody aircraft, and the only airline in the top 4 to be a 100% publically listed company.

Well done QF.

And good to see that MH is now 5 star. However I wonder why they are not among the top 3. And they lost the title as the BEST CABIN STAFF

I think CX should upgrade its inflight entertainment system especially in economy class. Wonder WHEN/WHETHER OR NOT they will install AVOD in economy class, larger private TV screen etc. They really should if they want to compete with MH, VS, SQ, QF etc. SQ, VS have AVOD in every economy class seats. QF and MH are installing them.

Congratulations to CX! They are probably the second biggest Asian carrier to AKL and many people use them to fly from AKL to Europe, and they seem to be getting more popular!

Might have to try them sometime when I go on a long Haul trip to Asia or Europe!

LH is not bad. Also AF. Hope LH and AF will install PTVs in its B 747-400 fleet eventually. AF has two B 747-400s with PTVs in economy class only right?

BTW why did AF remove first class?

Well...I don't agree that CX deserves to be the best airline. I have flown on many times and have seen little improvment.

1) CX never changed new seats and new PTVs with AVOD in all the aircraft except new aircraft (A346).
2) Lots of mechanical problems everyday. I was disappointed that I could not watch PTV because it was not working. But I was suprised that one of the CX flight attendants checked the PTV's problem and tried to fix the problems. But she could not fix it.
3) CX are not friendly enough but polite and nice to pax cos they dont smile a lot. However I have seen lots of CX japanese flight attendants are much better than HKG flight attendants.
4) Inflight meals are excellent

QF has been improved a lot.
1) New PTVs (with AVOD) and seats in all their aircraft.
2) Always delay
3) Friendly but too many old cabin crews lol
4) inflight meals are ok....but not up to the CX's inflight meal's standard because QF gave pax only small amount of food. Is that enough???

In my opinion, CX has the best onboard food. Also the largest portion and the greatest varieties of choices. You get 3 choices for lunch and dinner and 2 full breakfast choices.

I have flown on many times and have seen little improvment.

CX is always good I think.

Quoting FlyboyOz (Reply 39):
Friendly but too many old cabin crews lol

True! LOL!  Smile

I think that is a cultural thing. They don't smile as much first, but if you engage them right, then they will smile a lot and are very warm.

Very surprised at SQ 'way down' the list at #4. They must feel a little embarrassed, and I don't think they'll take it lying down. Expect some action from them.

JAL deserves something too. It is a good airline.

Exactly.

I am surprised too. Last year they were no 1. I been on SQ a few times in 2004 and the service was excellent.

But again the ranking depends on the number of votes an airline gets. They can't do much can they?

Flew QF (for schedule reasons) to BNE for a wedding last summer. Got changed as I always do after the belt lights went off. Asked the F/A if it would be possible to hang my clothes up and was greeted with a very bitchy-sounding "We don't do that on THIS airline." It wasn't the fact that they couldn't do it that bothered me, but his attitude that made me feel totally unwanted.
Maybe it was my fault for wearing a set of Shanghai Tangs?  Wink

CX got my HKG-Oz trips for the rest of the year. All 4 of them in premium cabins, and I am more flexible than before schedule-wise so I can avoid QF.

Meerkat,

Not very nice of them.

What class were you in? If you are in first I think they have a place for you to hang your clothes. Not sure about business.

So where did you put your Shanghai Tang at the end? At the overhead????

Indeed CX is more flexible and it offers more flights between HKG and BNE. CX is now flying daily between these two cities.

Was in (ugh) Y. Never had a problem with CX doing it, regardless of cabin. But as I said, it was the attitude rather than anything else that surprised me.

The STs were on me! But my day clothes found an empty seat to sit on  Smile

Think it was the timing of the flight and not the frequency, but it was the best part of a year ago now. Most of my HKG-Oz travel is to SYD, so CX has enough flights for me there.

I hate it when FAs are rude. Never had problems with CX flight attendents.

That's good. STs are pretty expensive so you better take good care of it.

CX is the only airline doing triple daily on the HKG-SYD run. Not sure if QF plans to do the same thing when they increase their number of flights to London via Hong Kong.
