Check the Boeing press release page...

Go to archives and look in 2004, the first order was placed in April.

Did anybody notice how the design has changed e.g. between the Korean 787 and the Northwest 787?

Once it was a "Dreamliner", now it looks like a 767 with new wings.

I`ve never seen drawings of a product which look so different from the product. Not from Airbus, a car maker or even a maker of household appliances.

Well from what I hear the Air Canada B787 will never see that livery, as they are going to stick with the interm paint scheme and make it the new Paint, The one with the fuselage is white and the tail is the new tail.

sadly, yes, the laws of aerodynamics and the efficiency promises took away some of the character. But the nose is distinct, if not as pointy, the wings still different, the wingbox not as square. I just wish the upswept rear vent remained. The more central rear vent really detracts from the whole look. Also the "shark tail" seems have to become more traditional, if still more pointy.

At least the engine fairings have that wavy trailing edge. That's now considered one of the distinctive features. Just paint some flames on that... oh wait, that might convey the wrong idea.  Wink

I have a photo of the B777 and B787 in a combined photo, but not on the computer. There are different photos of both the B777 and B787 else where on the internet.

lymanm, HEard it on www.milehighcustoms.com/forum from a guy who has been right about air canada so often, he works at GECAS according to him. so he is in the know, more then me at least. Appaerently it is costing Air Canada more then originally planned and it is cheaper to just leave the fuselage, plus passangers may have been saying they like the planes with the new tail better then the full new paint scheme. PLus only 15 were painted to the full scheme so it isn't too far into the program. I like the scheme with the tail done only better myself.

here is the exact quote:
"Air Canada after looking at the costs of the "Pearl Blue" paint on the
livery have decided to only change the tails to the new look maple leaf.
The fusulage will remain white with red titles. Only 15 planes so far have
recived the new paint. I was told that was it as the cost was to high. So
the blue is out and white is in. "

I think you have raised this issue in another thread.

Thus now that you have read it, Oldeuropean, put it into your pipe and smoke it.

At the end of the day what the airlines want is an efficient aircraft which meets their individual requirements and reduces operational costs.

That in a nut shell is what the 787 Dreamliner is all about.

A trivial point, but if the tail is painted with a solid colour that curves at the top then something of the shark fin impression is retained, and the pointly bit is not so noticeable.
