Dubuque, Iowa

I dont know how many of you know of this airport. It is served a few times a day by American. Northwest was there for a bit. They pulled out three years ago. Think anyone will come back? They just built a brand new jetway! what a waste...

Hard to say, AA pretty much has DBQ covered. If someone were to come into the market I think it would be a return by NWA, perhaps this time using regional jets to Detroit maybe 2 times a day (similar to what they did at Rockford Illinois). I think alot of people from DBQ tend to fly out of the larger airports nearest to them such as MLI (Moline-Quad Cities), CID (Cedar Rapids) or even MSN (Madison, Wisconsin), Those markets have service by the majors to their multiple hubs plus Airtran at Moline and Allegiant at Cedar Rapids and Madison.

Facilities play a large important role in attracting new airlines, especially those with jetway capable regional jets. The $75,000-$100,000 investment could go a long way in attracting some airline to CVG, DTW, ORD, CLE or other hub airport. If not it is good to have for charters, diversions and any other operation that could warrant a jetway.
It's a big building with patients, but that's not important right now.

NW would be nice, I bet if they came back it would be Saab Service to MSP though. DBQ now has a fourth daily Eagle flight to ORD, a flight they had tried very hard to get, with very heavy TV advertising which advertised the fourth flight and jet service. People at DBQ seem to be supportive of American Eagle, so I think NW would struggle if they came back.

I was talking the head flight instuctor at Dubuque yesterday and he told me that NW and Comair may be restarting service over the summer.

When did Comair ever have service to DBQ? Also it is very unlikely without subsidies, and there is no way DBQ could support all three.

The market probably does not warrant another airline in there. thats why NWA pulled out. AA probably has it pretty well covered. I am sure it is a very very small market. Those are just my thoughts.. only way CO or NWA will come in is to add service to EWR/ or DTW thats it. Eric

DBQ is too small of a market to warrant anymore service. As a previous writer stated, passengers tend to drive to MLI, MSN, or CID. The road to MLI is better and its not more than 90 minutes. Dubuque County's population in 2004 was only estimated at 90,000. Ozark once served this airport with DC-9's to ORD before deregulation, and was the airport's only carrier for over 25 years. Prior to that Braniff flew the route between CHI and FSD vis SUX, MCW, ALO, DBQ, and RFD.

Come on KC135.....DBQ is close to Dyersville, IA and the "Field of Dreams", so remember...."If you build it, they will come!"
