Varig Huge AD IN Brazilian Newspapers

Fri Jun 03, 2005 12:10 pm

Hi,

This is my first post on A.net. I have been reading this Forum for more than four years, but I never posted anything in all those years.

Today VARIG posted a huge advertisement (4 pages long) in all the main Brazilian newspapers. In a nutshell, the ad says that VARIG is an Airline for which the Brazilians shall have pride for and that it will restructure itself to keep rendering its services for 78 years more. Last but not least, VARIG thanks to all of its employees and in the last page of the ad it posted the names of all of its employees.

I checked the employees' name list and I was able to locate several names of friends of mine who work in VARIG.

This is the first advertisement of VARIG since a new board of directors, formed by some well-known Brazilian executives, and a new CEO took office last month.

I really hope that all the money spent by RG in this huge ad pays for and that the restructuring process works out to keep it flying.

Does anyone have any fresh news regarding the acquisition talks with TAP, or regarding any new aircraft to be added to the fleet?

Looks like we are getting a lot of new carioca members, welcome to the forum Jose! Always good to add more Brazilians to the list!

Well, the 744s are expected to come in the fleet, but I haven't heard anything in a while. Regarding TAP, nothing is really official yet other than a possible acquisition should be complete by October/05.

Well, I understand this might not make much sense, but I think they have to do something for their investors/employees/PAX to calm them down. I know, the money would be better spent somewhere else, but you can't just forget about all these people.

Just found this (in Portuguese only):

http://www1.folha.uol.com.br/folha/dinheiro/ult91u96897.shtml

Basically, it says the government (whom RG owes most of their debt) has agreed and given "the green light" for TAP to take over RG (they actually says they really liked the proposal). However, the strategy to revive RG still remains under locked keys and not a word has been said about it.

If this moves on, the first measures (no info was released on what they would be) could begin to take place as soon as next week.

Things are finally moving it seems, hope the best for RG/TP!!

Romeo Alfa, thank you for your warm welcome.

I really agree with your post. The ad is necessary, and from your point of view it can be even considered as vital for RG to calm down its investors/employees and mainly PAX, in order for it to have the necessary peace to proceed with the restructuring.

Looks like fellow member BoeingBus found and posted an article about the same issue I posted above before, and in English:
