Ramp Tours And Ramp Passes

Fri Jun 03, 2005 10:36 pm

I'm curious which airports provide scheduled ramp tours for the public. Believe Zurich airport did or does tours of the ramp and you get to see the active runway in close up. Some airports in out of the way places like Sjarjah can provide ramp passes apparently.

You can get one day passes at MAN, I don't think they're for that purpose, just for people on training courses or something...

I don't think I've ever seen anyone doing a tour, but then I only work in the mornings, they might do it in the afternoons.

Quick google search didn't turn anything up either.

Probably nowhere in the USA, security is very tight.

Actually, IAH can set you up with a ramp tour....I did one about a year and a half ago.

I was able to get a close up look at a variety of aircraft on the SLC ramp, thanks to a fellow a.netter.  bigthumbsup

Not to mention crawling around the avionics bay of a FedEx A300.

Hi!

Zurich did propose some very interesting ramp tours a few years ago. If my memory is correct, these took place on Wednesdays and Saturdays afternoons, when kids are off-school. For a small sum of CH 4,50 or something, you got a whole coach tour and 15 minutes at the intersections near the newer E-Dock. I've watched a A340 roaring during takeoff within 100 metres from me. Awesome!

Do go to their website. Another one was Frankfurt-Main. Typical German quality of service, but that was before a certain 09/11, but do check their website out. Certain European airports have "quietened down" as far as such visits are concerned.

Please keep me informed!

Slan for now!

If your company has a corporate account with Fedex, you can arrange a tour of the Memphis hub. When I was there it included a visit to the flightline and a cockpit visit to one of the DC-10's.

Well due to time, saftey and security, I highly dought any US airline will be able to do that these days. Although employees can always get their friends and family behind the scenes, just one of those perks.
Good Luck to all Skyway Pilots! It's been great working with you!

I have heard the SYD tours have been closed?

HNL used to offer a tour, but that is no more.

Bangock offers a tour, I think the price is about $75US per day.
