Branson To Buy Concorde?

Wed Apr 19, 2000 5:27 am

Rumours are rife that airline entrepeneur Richard Branson AKA Mr Virgin for those of you who don't know, is planning to buy Concorde when BA have finished with them.
Can any aircraft freaks tell me if this is true?

I read that too! BUT that was last year. My version was leasing one from Air France. He would make no profit but the advertising would be good! Since I have haerd nothing!

This rumour has been doing the rounds for a long time now, atleast 5 years and always comes to nothing.

Virgin are desperate for 747's at the moment, the only ones available to them need major cabin ovehauls although they are looking at some of the surplus SIA aircraft.

Sounds like a typical Branson publicity stunt- can you imagine how horrible the Concorde would look in Virgin's new paint job?

I don't think that they will be available when BA are "finished with them"

There was a rumour a few years ago that Virgin were to lease an Air France SSC in full colours.

Doubt it will happen.

I guess if BA finishes operating Concordes one day they would trash all of them immediately to avoid the risk that Branson could get them...

Leasing from AF doesn't seem logical. For scheduled operations one aircraft isn't enough due to the many technical problems which may occure. And AF can't give away more if they want to keep up their regular services.
