He may be correct; assuming pension obligations are passed to the taxpayers, he can renegotiate lease terms so more aircraft don't get repo'd, and fuel falls to $ 35 a barrel.

News Flash: TILTON PREDICTS PROFIT FOR UAL CORPORATION IN 2006.

News Flash: BAW716 ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IN 2006!

The likelihood of the former happening is exactly like the likelihood of the latter happening: ZERO!

Glen, really, you have to stop smoking that stuff that you grow in the courtyard at WHQ. It really is giving you delusions of grandeur.

Well, UA making a profit in 2006 would be a great sign since that would probably mean all the other legacies -- or at the very least AA and CO -- would also be making profits! We'll see if it happens, though, and given fuel prices, I'll believe it when I see it.

While I HIGHLY doubt it will happen, if the oil prices were to plummet, everything is possible. Since they don't elect presidents here in the US in 2006, I would say that UA has a better chance.

Spin is all the article is, not much solid information or anything that would support one persons claim, though good luck to them.

At first, I read that as...:

(note: obviously, the latter is a misquote)

However, that would at least be more reasonable, far more likely than UAL CORP turning a profit, anyway...

Maybe Tilton himself will make a profit in 2006. I am not sure that UA will.

Like anything, it is a wild guess. Most airlines thought that they would be profitable this year. The have obviously been mistaken.

Tilton predicts profits - some a.net members say "idiot"
Tilton predicts hard times ahead - some a.net members say "what's new"

guess the guy can't win

If it weren't for United Airlines this web site would be dead boring....

That would only be the case if the PBGC has to be bailed out. Presuming that the PBGC assumes the UAL pensions without default, then the taxpayers will not be footing the bill.

Helluva deal. Wonder if UAL will be out of bankruptcy by then.

It's also assuming that the non-bankrupt carriers don't push their pension obligations over to the PBGC. It also assumes that Ford and GM don't push their pension obligations over to the PBGC.

The ground employees pensions were passed on earlier this week...the pilot pensions were passed on last month along with the SAM pensions...not sure on the FA's though

Ba humbug! At the expense of whom? The CEO is attempting to send good news to hide all the flack the management has been taking all this time!

Yes, to be completely accurate, I should have said 2008, but I was trying to make a point. Either way, I was right, the chances of either are ZERO!

Have any of you seen UA's business plan or know what they plan to make a profit at? I do. The latest plan that I have heard of, before the new labor contracts accounted for $45 dollar a barrel fuel to make a profit. The new one, is higher.

I also pose one question to all of you at a.net: How many of you currently work for UA? Furthermore, how many of you work in Elk Grove? It is uninformed posts like this that drive awesome members like mm320cap away. Do any of you remember him? And BAW716 I know you used to work for UA and I respect that, but how do all of you seem to know what is UA's business plan?

Additionally, what IF (and that is a BIG if) Tilton is right? He is not trying to win a popularity contest. He is the CEO to make UA competitive. If that moron Goodwin was still in charge, UA would have been Chap. 7 in 02-03 and everyone here knows that. I don't like what has happened to the employees(especially my father a 26 year 777 captain with 5 years left before retirement) either. No one here who doesn't work for UA or any other struggling carrier knows what it is like. As of right now, my father is selling his house because his salary is HALF of what it was in 2000. ALL of his ESOP is gone, and his pension has been cut to 25% of what it was.

Everyone here says "remember Eastern, TWA,TXI, Pan Am......?" This situation is ENTIRELY different. UA was not raped by Frank Lorenzo or Carl Ichan, UA did not have the lack of domestic feed that Pan Am had, and UA did not have the same problems as Braniff. UA is an excellent airline but for some reason everytime they win an award, everyone here says "oh its because they sponser the organization", "oh the voting is rigged", oh "i flew UA one time 15 years ago and my flight was delayed so the service MUST be the same", etc. etc.

Another one is, "UA's product and service is old and sucks because I cant play video games at my seat or my flight was delayed 30 minutes 15 years ago.", "CO is better", "AA is better" blah blah blah. Yes UA's First Suite doesnt have the huge tv, and yes the product is 7-10 years old, but it is a 180 degree lie flat bed. Does CO have that? NO. Does DL have that? NO . Does NW have that? NO. And does ANY other US carrier have Channel 9? NO. Did any other legacy carrier rank higher than UA in on-time performance? NO. I guess i am naive thinking that and channel 9 would be more important to people on a site like this than playing Mario Brothers on your way to FRA.

So please people, if you have not flown UA more than 3 times in the past 2-4 years, don't make a comment because UA is FAR different than in 95, FAR different than during "The Summer of Hell", and is FAR different than it was under Goodwin.

In conclusion, I'm sorry if I seem irate, but UA is the airline I have grown up with and love more than anything(yes that includes sex Wink), and they have supported my family tremendously. I have wanted to be a pilot for UA since before I can remember and could not imagine flying for anyone else. So do not wish they go chap. 7 and try to examine the real airline whether you like it or not and base you opinion off of that before you s&it on their product. If they liquidate, hundreds of thousands of people will be affected. How will my 17 year old sister who is an up-and-coming high school senior go to college? What about my 12 year old brother? People here just do not think about the true rammifications of what would happen. Instead they think "Wouldn't it be cool if CO flew to Heathrow?"
