Lufthansa Business Class

Sat Jun 04, 2005 5:13 am

Quick question. i will be flying from LAX TO FRA at the end of the month and was wondering if the business class cabin will have the new business class seats? it is a 747 and on the return flight i am sitting in the single seat in the nose, which only has 4 rows instead of the general 5, leading me to believe there is expanded leg room. has anyone been on a 747 between lax-fra recently?

Best to call LH res and ask yourself. Some flights might have the new seats and some flights won't. The reservations staff would be the best people to talk to about this.

Also check the website. It is updated regularly with routes and flight numbers where the new C Class is available. I have flown it a few times and I highly recommend it. Enjoy.

Interesting... (I've only been on the old one.) Is this due to the service in it, or due to the technical problems it's been (allegedly) experiencing?

Where do I start????

The entertainment systems are archaic. It is not video on demand... I think even some eco classes on other airlines must have V.O.D. by now...
I got sick of watching a movie, and went to switch to another movie, however, you have to join a movie half way through, you cannot watch it from the start.

So then I decide that I will play a game instead.... I use the funny little directional mouse thing to select GAMES from the menu, only to be told that the games service is not available right now, but will be soon. They should have just left it off the menu altogether, as it just breeds disappointment.

The entertainment system is not user friendly... I had trouble navigating through the myriad of menus, and I consider myself to be computer literate. The systems should be able to be used by a 90 y.o. granny.

The directional "mouse" that is on the control is a waste of space... I felt like my fingers needed physio after using it.

After the 5th flight on the new LH business class, I found out that the tray tables DO swing out for you to get up out of your seat whilst you have the table out. (it is a little pull button on the corner of the table)

The seats are made by Recaro, and they are the noisiest seats I have ever experienced... If you are sitting in ROW A, you can hear someone on the other side of the aircraft adjusting their seats. (maybe this is testament to how quiet that A340's are...)

The seats are not even close to being flat.

Someone in LH should lose their job over this....

I am not even going to start talking about the service levels.....

It is really sad...

Notice on another thread about the best airlines that LH did not even get a mention....????

Flew the new LH C class in february FRA to ICN and back.
FRA to ICN : the seat didn't work at all : IFE and the seat itself : they rebooted several times, no way : finally tried to replace the fuses, but they were unreachable. By the way : seat runs on Windows CE : Microsoft high quality product... Finally got another seat

ICN to FRA : only the IFE had to be rebooted.

Heard from my collegues that several seats had to be rebooted during the flight.

What's next : reboot of the airplane......

seat itself is not so comfortable, but I can live with it (for max 7-8 hours). And what is 7- 8 hours in a complete life : only a second (?)
But there are worse seats (the old ones in my living room : just upgraded them) no : just kiddin'

I treat myself and my wife to LH F next month : what else to do with my FF miles?

LUC

The seats actually do go into a flat position. They are just not fully horizontal as your feet are angled toward the ground, but they are flat. There is a small footrest at the end to prevent you from slipping while you sleep. The systems have had a lot of teething problems, but they are slowly being worked out. The video on demand should now be fully functional on all aircraft with the new seat, as wel the gaming and other interactive features of the entertainment system. Everything was operational when I flew SFO-MUC in the beginning of May (except for FlyNet.) The FlyNet reliability is also fantastic now and has been recieving very high marks from the customers.

Why do airlines spend a load of cash on a new J product and not go the whole hog? No video-on-demand? Are you kidding? Virgin, Cathay and others have had it for ages, even in Y.

New generation J class seats that aren't flat beds really gets on my nerves. Qantas have done the same thing, these enormous seats (with stupid cocoons) but they don't go flat, you keep sliding off them - but proper flat beds wouldn't take up any extra space, so what's the problem?! BA were the first with flat beds, and in my opinion remain the only airline to get it right. You'd think, by now, someone would have copied them and improved on it, but no chance. The one possible exception is Cathay, whose new(ish) seats aren't flat but are nearly as comfortable as BA.

Btw, Lufthansa's old J class product is really bad, flew them to China and back before Xmas and it was a very poor show. The guy next to me grabbed a flight attendent and pointed out that as a SQ gold card member, he was used to better than this. The flight attendent looked around the cabin in a slightly theatrical way and said, "Singapore Airlines? Well sir, welcome to hell."

LH F class is an excellent "investment" of air miles, in my opinion! You will enjoy it!

they are flat, they just aren't horizontal. BA's business class? NEVER again, I flew to LHR and the man facing/next to me had the worst smelly feet ever. Right after takeoff, he popped his shoes off, reclined and promptly ruined my dinner with the horrible odor from his smelly feet...BA hasn't gotten J class right. On top of that, they have managed to squeeze one more seat in width wise, i thought J was about a little more privacy and a little more room...i guess not on BA.

I flew on BA ClubWorld last summer on a daylight flight on a 777 and everything was nice. I was seated on the rear-facing seat on the window.

I only found a little "challenging" when I had to go out from my seat during the flight, and the seat of the other passenger (the seat-space I had to go through in order to be on the aisle) was reclined. I think it's a little more hard to walk away from the seats that are not on the aisle when the other seats on the way are reclined.
And while sleeping I had some trouble in finding the right position. The seat, reclined, is 2 centimeters shorter than me, so it takes some time to find a good position, if you can find it.

I don't know if "almost flat" like LH business class seats are more comfortable than "fully flat" like BA..anyone tried both?

yes i have tried both, and to be honest, neither are stellar.

with fully flat BA seats, they are a tad bit too short for me to be fully confortable when sleeping, and that is aside from the width--as there are just as many seats abreast are there are in wtp.

with "flat" seats, i find myself asleep for a bit of time, but wake up because i have slid down the seat a bit, and i can never sleep for many hrs at a time (speaking of space beds on SQ and QF)

perfect solution? VS suites. nice width, legth and space about the shoulders espcially. only time i have ever slept for hours on end has been on the VS UCS.

Hmm, well based on the divider between the seats at the foot/head end I'd say if his feet smelt that bed you'd have smelt them in a regular config of J seat

Quoting CTHEWORLD (Reply 14):

True, but they have done it more cleverly. The top is wider than the bottom therefore making more efficient use of space. It is the only real way to make that facing seats config work. And if you haven't tried the upper deck it makes the world of difference.

I think BA have done a good job on it if you get the right seat (i.e. upper deck window seat). After all make it much better and you eat into the F market!

In this case I am not wondering that is has to be rebooted all the time. Have you ever seen a Windows system running properly?

Lufthansa Business Class is awful. And lie flat seats are not lie flat. They are very noisy, and I kept sliding down.
