Where Does Air France Have Crew Bases?

Sat Jun 04, 2005 9:19 am

Hi,

As a KLM employee I am aware that the majority of the crew are AMS based. However we do have crew bases in Asia for destinations like Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan. Some function as F/A's other as on-board translators.
We also had a crewbase in India for the DEL and BOM flights, but we got rid of them, as most Indians speak good English.

My question is does AF also have crew based outside of France and if so, where are they located.
Are these direct AF employees or contractors for a certain period?

Thanks in advance.

Well, AF has crew based in the overseas territories/departments. Places like PPT and the Carribean. AF actually flies an A32S between MIA and Carribean destinations

Although not technically outside of France (Territoires et Departements d'Outre-Mer are effectively part of France), AF has a crew base at PPT for its thrice weekly PPT-LAX-CDG flight, and maybe even in other places, although I suspect many of their foreign language speakers to be based in Paris. A respected member of this forum is actually part of AF's PPT crew base, so he could probably tell you more.

The main Crew Bases are CDG and ORY.

Some Crews are based at FDF for the Carribean network.
There's also a base at PPT.

AF used to have a base in NOU. This base was closed in the late 90's when AF stopped flying to NOU. The Crew were proposed to be tranferred to the CDG base or to join AirCalin (keeping their seniority & grade level). That's what most of them did.

The Japanese F/A are based at CDG, as well as the Chinese and Korean translators.

If you include Cityjet (WX) which is wholly owned by AF, they have a crew base in DUB.

Yes, they have one A320 based in Fort de France flying some regional routes. The most important route it flies is their island hopper service between Miami and Cayenne, which is routed Miami-Port Au Prince-Fort de France-Pointe Pitre-Cayenne.

No crew base in Run as flights are nonstop from ORY (10 to 11hours of flight time).
AF just have a code share with Air Seychelles to SEZ (Flight operated by Air Seychelles)

No other AF's Crew base than CDG, ORY,PPT, and PTP (Not FDF...!).

In 1999, AF had Crews (F/A) based at EZE. They were operating the Daily EZE-SCL-EZE leg.
They were all volunteers and based there for 2 months.
The base was closed after 6 or 8 months of operations.

I believe AF has a crew base in COO (Cotonou, the largest city in Benin) that
they use for staff flying to LOS, on account of the latter's being an exceptionally
dangerous and unpleasant city to stay in without much local knowledge. (So
they say; I haven't been, but reports from others haven't been nice.) It
would appear the staff are flown over by helicopter for their rest periods
before the return.

Is this (still) true? Ordinary AF routing CDG-LOS is by simple vv return, unlike
some of their triangle flights in West Africa (CDG->LOM & COO, CDG-> NIM &
Ouagadougou). Can anyone confirm / deny?

AF doesn't have (and never had) any crew based at COO.
AF Crews are now staying overnight at LOS.
Until recently, the operating the flight CDG-LOS was taken to COO for the stay by a private plane, and flown back to LOS for the return flight to CDG.

CDG-LOS-CDG is DAILY (AF85/855) operated by a B772ER
CDG-COO-CDG is 5 x Weekly (AF814/813) operated by an A343

The DAILY flight CDG-ABJ is now operated via LFW (Lome) for a crew change (A332)

CDG-LFW-CDG is 3 x Weekly (A332 AF848/849)

CDG-OUA-CDG (AF730/735) is 3 x Weekly (A332)
CDG-NIM-OUA-NIM-CDG (AF732/731) is 2 x Weekly.

CDG-BKO-CDG is DAILY (AF796/791 - A332)

CDG-CKY-CDG is 2 x weekly (AF766/767 - A332)
CDG-NKC-CKY-NKC-CDG is 4 x Weekly (AF765/765 - A343)

CDG-NDJ-BGF-CDG is 1 x Weekly (AF884 - A332)
CDG-NDJ-CDG is 3 x Weekly (AF882/881 - A332)
