BA Executive Club

Sun Jun 05, 2005 2:55 am

Hi,

I got the confirmation in today for our holiday. We'll be travelling on BA 2931 on June 18th and BA 2942 on July 2nd. I was just wondering if i can join the executive club with this? I got something that's called a record locator on the documents, it's 6 digits, but BA doesn't recognise this to join the club. Should i shoot an e-mail to them or do i need another number?

I wanted that so i could pre-book seats before we get there. Oh yeah this flight is from a travel agent, it's the flights included in the Royal Caribbean holiday thing. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Cheers for any help, much appreciated.

The 6 letter code may be an Amadeus no see if it works at www.checkmytrip.com

It is likely to an "Inclusive Tour" fare class and thus unlikely to eligible for the Executive Club.

If it is a long haul flight, the seats are pre bookable, register at www.ba.com, and you may be able to select your seats online.

Only tickets in Y,B and H fares of World Traveller and anything in WT+ or above is allows you to join the EC.

My guess if you aren't in a high enough booking class to join the Executive Club. In some ways it regulates itself as if you fly on cheap tickets on BA it isn't really worth joining, you earn nothing towards BA Silver/Gold on cheap fares and the mileage earned is only 25% of flown mileage.

By the sounds of it you are very unlikely to be in an eligible booking class to join the Exec Club.

However, I've heard from a number of people that the joining form on ba.com will actually work with any flight in any bkg class, so you may as well give it a try! Be warned that even if it does work there is a risk your account could be deleted if you haven't taken an eligible flight.

I joined the executive club using my "Hotline" booking (staff discount). This is (or was) a heavily discounted fare which, although staff, was firm booking.

Basically, if you are flying in any class on BA and you have a BA locator, then you are eligible to join.

However, discounted fares, as has been said, only return 25% of the mileage. Works ok if you are travelling long distance, but short haul, well, it will take forever to build your miles up.

It's worth it though, as you get some discounts on car hire etc and, when you do manage to travel full whack, you'll start to build up the points - just don't hold your breath!!

The official company line is only certain flexible economy fares are eligible, not the cheapest ones. However it seems that this is not enforced on ba.com!

Did you have a WT+ booking? This can be made through Hotline and is nevertheless eligible for EC membership. If you were just on a cheapo economy ticket, you were lucky. Although if you continue to fly on Hotlines it will take years before you can earn enough miles for a domestic flight (and still pay all the taxes!) and about 3983 years before you can take an economy flight to the States.

As said above, this is enforced whenever possible, although laziness does let a few slip through the net.

You can't use BA miles to upgrade a CX ticket I'm afraid...
