it looks nice in their livery, but as other people rightfully said, the engines should have been painted in the same color as the tail

Great pic, thanks for the link MauriceB!

WOW, that a/c is really long!

Too much white now on the new TG sceme I think!

Where's the first scheduled service too, and where do TG plan to use the 346 too, AKL,ZRH??

I've read somewhere that TG will use their A346 to AMS once they re-start service to AMS (next year?). Correct me if I'm wrong.

What routes will these aircraft fly on; and are they replacing older B747's?

Its really not clear at this point - many assumed that the A346s would replace Thai's two 743s and four MD11s and greatly simplify the fleet...however, that does not seem to be happening just yet and it seems that the aircraft will be used for expansion.

The A345s are on the new nonstop routes to the US.

The A346s will be used on certain European routes (AKL may follow), allowing increased services to Australia and New Zealand with existing aircraft. The A346 is supposed to be used for the re-launch of the AMS-BKK route, thus no aircraft will be replaced. And, frequencies on flights to certain scandic cities will be increased as more airliners are delivered - requiring additional aircraft. Plus, wasnt there a thread this week about Thai opening a BKK-JNB service, with the MD11s. I guess that one can conclude that Thai will be using the A340NG aircraft for expansion purposes.

To summarize, it seems that Thai will be not be disposing of any aircraft for the time being.

So does TG want to use a variety of aircraft for the kangaroo route?
What value does that have beyond variety for spotters?

The 346 will come to AKL at the end of October. BKK-AKL non stop will get the MD11 for the first 3 months now instead of the 346.

As for the Kangaroo route, I haven't heard that TG plan to use the 346 to OZ, most of the flight will stay as B744's to SYD and MEL and I think the second flight will be split and they will each get a B772ER when they arrive. BNE is a B773 and PER is a A333. Eventually SYD will probably become an A380 destination for TG.

I understand the 743's and MD11's will remain in the fleet a little longer, I agree with Dutchjet on this one that the new aircraft will take over some existing routes, though AKL will become non stop with the 346. MD11's to JNB could be likely until they have enough new aircraft to use there. The 743's i'd say will pretty much fly in Asia now.

I really don't like the thai airways colors. There is too much white that makes it look cheap like some charter airlines c/s. Oh well... I guess it will grow on me just like the UA c/s has already.

Looks okay in the 744 and 345, but there is just too much white in the A346. It just doesn't feel right, the tailfin is too small, not showing off their great orchid logo. It would look better if the engines were painted.

MauriceB, thx for the pic, you bit our corperate department to it  bigthumbsup

As for now, here is where our A346 go:

Quoting ZK-NBT (Reply 12):

Quoting FCKC (Reply 6):

It will go to ZUR & ATH, routes currently operated by MD-11, as our A346 and M11 are about the same capacity & M11 will start BKK-MOW on 01Nov05 & BKK-JNB soon. Until then, A346 & M11 will share route.

Yes, Ive heard the same.
Although I don't know whether the A346 will go to Athens immediately.
It's a low yield market anyway, so aircraft type doesn't play that much of a role.

However, I think the A346 will operate to MEL 5pw on the TG981/982 service, which is currently MD11. Once the B772's have be retorfitted, then they will replace the A346 on the MEL sector.

Hi guys, so here is what I have from the updated TPI I received this morning:

It seems that the first 2 destinations to receive our A346 will be ZRH and TYO, starting as early as 15Jul05.

TG970 BKK ZRH 0030 0710 (DAILY)
TG971 ZRH BKK 1130 0520*(DAILY)

TG676 BKK TYO 0730 1540 (DAILY)
TG677 TYO BKK 1655 2125 (DAILY)

Other destinations that may have receive A346 once in a while will be KUL. Right now, it seems that we are not yet able to unlink AKL from Australia yet.

Not as of right now. MEL will continue to be served with M11(non-stop) & 744(STP in SYD)

Now all the info should be current up till 28OCT2005, the last day of our summer schedule.

For now, starting 29OCT05, A346 will run the following route plus TYO and ZRH (subject to change):

TG774 BKK-KIX-LAX & vv (2357)
TG778 BKK-LAX & vv (146)
TG932 BKK-CDG & vv (146)
TG989 BKK-AKL & vv (DAILY)

It seems better to do the LAX-BKK daily and dispose of the KIX-stopover flight.

I will be non-stop 3 or 4 days a week, that is after they have reinstated BKK-LAX to be a daily route again.

I like that idea. In fact from all those unpublished images prior to the release of the current new Thai corperate image, there was the idea of painting the engines the same shade of purple on the fin.

BTW, can anyone spot the symbolism of the new livery on the tail?

For those of you who have been to Thailand, this should be pretty obvious, althought painted rather subtle on the A/C

Nope. In fact, they may actually keep both SYD-AKL & BNE-AKL and simply add a BKK-AKL. But of course, all these are subject to change, after they have sorted out all the A/C rotation. Seems that Australia will see a variety of A/C towards the end of 2005: A330-300 (to PER), B747, B744, B748 (retrofited B744), B773, M11 & A346(running BKK-SYD on a non-reg basis)

TGBoi - can you confirm that the BKK-LAX non stop will run only three days a week, with the remaining four days a week connecting through KIX? I'm actually planning a November trip and was going to route through JFK to catch that non stop but LAX would be a bit more convenient. Didn't the BKK-LAX route alternate between NRT and KIX at one point?

Thanks!

IFE + new livery will be installed and painted the next time the plane is due for strip check. Priority given to B744/743 and all 777-200/-300. NO words on the Airbus, not even the A330-300.  confused

This is what I get when I pull up the availability for the week of 25Nov05:
TG794 BKK-LAX non-stop on Day 1,4,6 with A346 (A345 as emergency switch)
TG774 BKK-KIX-LAX on Day 2,3,5,7 with B744 or B748

Yes, at one point TG used to alternate between KIX & NRT. From what I heard, connect time or the timing for the flt. at NRT was rather unpopular and caused that route to be low-yield, so they stopped BKK-NRT-LAX.

TGBoi, can you confirm if PTVs will be installed on the B747-400s during the refurbishment process, it seems from the pictures of the refurbished B744, that only the first and business class cabins were given a complete overhaul, for the economy class cabin, only the seat fabrics were changed and no PTVs installed - will this be the case with all the aircraft to be refurbished.

I also saw on another forum, pictures of the new inflight service ware - crockery etc, not only for business class, but economy class as well, can you confirn if this is a company wide initaitive to change the service product or just a special for the BKK-JFK non-stop flight.

Lastly it seems that on another post, it has been indicated that the non-stop flight to LAX will be on the A345 rather than A346 which makes sense as that particular aircraft has the longer range for such a flight, however, this does pose the problem of an inconsistent product on alternate days even though the 1 stop flight will be operated by the new A346, as the aircraft has a different cabin layout.

Unfortunately, you're right. The economy in 747-400 gets only new seat fabrics. PTV in Y is only available on A340-500 and A340-600 and probably the refurbished B777-200 as well as the new B777-200ER.
