Delta To Offer MD88 Service To GPT

Sun Jun 05, 2005 7:20 am

2 daily M88 flights ATL-GPT effective 9/1/05. It looks like the M80's will replace a 73S and a CRJ. Good news for GPT and for the Gulf South region.

It is moving away from a military economy to a resort and retirement haven. A future growth area that could become a focus city if managed correctly.

Who's DLETA  Wink ? Seriously, looks like GPT is really growing for DL. It was not too long ago that this was a primarily AT7-route and DL announced new all-jet service, with mainline service being also added, and now they will already add a second mainline flight. Definitely goes against the trend of downgrading routes to RJ-only.

Speaking of downgrade, the morning MSY-CVG flight goes from a 732 to a CRJ. Ouch. That flight had been a 727 and MD88 in years past and has flown with a 732 for at least the last few years. The demand doesn't just dissapear I can assure you. Oh well, with the old 732's being retired, I guess we can expect more of this. So sad.

A hell of a lot more cases like that. Looking at the June timetable, CVG is losing mainline service to BUF, GRR, GSO, IAH and STL. At CVG, 732s are dropping like flies, at SLC the 733s drop like flies, and at ATL, well, the M88 still rules  Wink .

I flew out of GPT about 6 months ago on an MD-80 of some series on Delta. I looked for the ticket stub and through my mileage statement, but it does not go back past 6 months. I flew for TZ then and was doing military charters back and forth from VCV and ended up in GPT where they positioned me back.

Could have been up to a year ago, but I do not remember it being that long ago. One way or the other, it was an MD-88 and I sat by the a/c L engine. I was surprised at how little noise there is that close to the engine.

Saturday-only service, departed GPT at 11:05am.

GSO-CVG mainline comes back in the September schedules...the morning CR7 (that used to be an MD-88 and a 737-200) will be a 737-800.
