If this is THE SINGLE famous MyTravel DC-10, then it became famous here in Denmark some 4 or 5 years ago. The fame came from a trip from Miami to Copenhagen which took almost a week.
Day after day it was headline news how far it had made it after a short jump until it again went broke.
Danish journalists flew out on scheduled airliners, met the waiting passengers and interviewed them about their mood. While the passengers became fewer and fewer as more and more passengers became desparate, pulled out their credit card and bought an ordinary one way ticket back home.
When they finally arrived at destination there was an even larger welcome committee which included the local CAA authorities who were very interested in the resons for this most dramatic pond crossing.
Before that event it was pretty well known in Swedish newspapers. The ARN
(Stockholm) ATC controllers had gone to the press and told that over and over again they had been nice to this DC-10 when arriving from the Canary Islands to ARN
asking for "priority landing" due to "pain in the petrol". The controllers said that in the future they would only accept a May Day call.
It was before the name MyTravel was invented. But certainly it was (one of) the reasons for inventing a new name. Without a name change they could just as well have closed down completely, at least in Scandinavia.
With the authorities blowing them heavily on their back following those incidents, and with the present modern Airbus equipment I'm sure they are true professionals today.
