Is Germanwings a free-seating airline or do they allocate seats at check-in? If free-seating, do they have a priority boarding system? What is their seat pitch and seat comfort like?
Germanwings is indeed a free-seating LCC. In THEORY what happens is that that passengers with boarding card number 1-30, then 31-60, then 61-90, then 90+ board the aircraft in that order. In PRACTICE this doesn't happen most of the time and it's just like a bunch of cattle trying to get onto a flight like most LCC carriers with no seat-allocation.
Comfort is good I must say (and with 187cm I am quite tall and would notice if I were restricted). It's not one of those airlines where you get to know your knees much better. I have flown with both their A319s and A320s and the seat pitch is the same to my knowledge. I think it was something like 30" (good for LCC standards). They have their aircraft from a german charter operator which did lots of flights to Spain... forget their name!! They also have LCD
screens like every 3 rows which is great
Anyways, if you are flying with them... enjoy!!
