Standard Commercial Airway Routes

Hi,

Can anyone point me to a website that shows the standard ATC controlled routes or corridors for primarily the UK, Europe and routes from the UK/Europe to the US? Im not looking for specific airline routes, but the proper routes that ATC places aircraft into.

This has been bugging a number of us in the office, and google isnt being helpful.

There are no proper routes per se. There is a system of tracks that vary each day depending on the winds. For today's track system here's the link https://www.notams.jcs.mil/common/nat.html.

I think Phil is referring only to the 3rd part of your question! As for the UK and around Europe, I've only ever seen paper copies (Jeppesson (sp?) etc), available at aircraft hobby shops such as Birmingham.

Thanks for your replies -

I think both of you are reading too much into my question  Smile Im not after the detailed sort of maps that you use to actually navigate by, or up to date things based on the weather right this minute, Im just looking for the general paths that are taken over the UK and out over the Atlantic.

For example, the routes taken from Gatwick to Bristol to Ireland and out over the atlantic, if thats a route, or up to manchester and then onward, again if thats a valid route out.

The reason Im asking is because a colleague has spotted a huge increase in commercial traffic over his house (Devises, Wiltshire) at a fairly low altitude, and we are wondering where its suddenly come from as theres way too much traffic for Bristol or other regionals around here.

Ah, a local question! Devizes is only 8 miles from here and is either under or close to military airspace. To answer your question, I'd have to then kill you! Only joking, but I did see several more planes today over Westbury. Usual summer parachute jumps I think.

I'm only a novice at this so somebody might like to correct me... but here goes. From Gatwick flights seem to fly towards Southampton and Exeter before turning right and heading up over North Devon and towards Ireland.

From Heathrow, due west along the M4, over north Bristol, and along the South Wales coast.

Bristol to the west join the M4 corridor, somewhere near the Severn Bridge.

From South Wales you either head westish towards Cork or northwest towards Shannon. There's a weekend track north-west from the Swindon area towards Dublin.

If more northerly tracks are used then either fly up the M1 (from LHR/LGW), M5 (from BRS), out over the Isle of Man, or even further north still. Flights to NYC would tend to take the more southerly ones; LAX flights more northerly (think great circle mapping).

Routes vary...

Ahh a local boy!  Smile From the way he describes the traffic, its definately commercial airline stuff, 737-800s etc. Where I live, Chippenham, we are directly under the Lyneham approach path, and yet we still see a LOT of civilian commercial stuff flying various levels over us, so the airspace isnt totally closed.

Hmm, maybe upper level stuff. I used to live in Chippenham but never saw commercial aircraft - that was about 4 years ago. The east-west corridor is further north than Chippers.
