I hope from AKL they fly nonstop westbound to LHR. That would be a nice demonstration of range.

I think this is quite obvious that Boeing will attempt to set some kind of world record with these two round-the-world flights.

why would they go to Shungshan from CKK Intl when they are in TPE????
Are they interested in getting a new Presidential jet??? I guess the 772LR would certainly get around the problems they have finding places to allow them to refuel whenever the Taiwan president goes anywhere!

for someone who doesn't know the geography of this very well, can you explain what is interesting about this routing? what are in the cities (companies, politicians), are they elevated, short runways, etc?

Looks like the world tour is beginning tonight.

The aircraft is currently headed to YUL (ETA 8PM local time).

Perhaps the airlines interested in purchasing the aircraft would like to see the actual aircraft they are buying. If you were buying a car, and the salesman said "here's a model, it looks just like the one you're buying but there are some differences under the hood," how would you react?

shungshan is the "old" Taipei airport which is essentially "in the city", ChiangKaiShek is the "new" airport 40 miles "out of town", its like flying from Midway to OHare! Or Love Field to DFW!

That first photo is really quite nice. Good view of those raked wingtips.

What is the origin of the "119" on the nose gear doors ? (WD001 did not have any number there).

@westwing:

I would say that those numbers are the "plane id" for LeBourget!
There each plane has a specific number sticker on it, for identification  Wink

Not to complain, but when is Boeing going to REALLY show what this 772LR is made of?
HKG-LHR isn't impressive...it's done everyday!!

With Boeing crowing about the range with full payload, then let us see some truly impressive range with and without payload.

A number of things I could think of. Such as BA having part of the 777 fleet based there (and GE powered onesin particular), plus lack of space at LHR in general.

Gatwick could have more readily available and convenient space for parking up and exhibiting. There are also a couple of other 'potential' clients with LGW operations. LHR isn't that far away either....

well considering the A350 will have for 90% different parts than the A330 and the 200LR compared to the 200ER somewhat near 5-10%?

Darn, no flights into Japan.
Well, the existing -200ER can cover much of the world from Japan and Korea.

TPE (Chiang Kai Shek) and TSA (Sungshan) are two different airports in Taipei. It's like comparing DFW & DAL. TPE handles all int'l flights and TSA handles domestic, VIP, and military flights.

The B777-200LR does not need optional fuel tanks to fly CPT-NRT or NRT-CPT. That's 7980nm -- an easy route for the B777-200LR.

The current record -- 10,823 nautical miles (20,044 kilometers) -- was set in 1997 by the 777-200ER ( Extended Range ).
