Mason: If you check up www.sabsa.aero
you can get updates of all three international airports: LPB
has been irregular with flights to/from LPB
but as per www.sabsa.aero,
did not suspend VVI. So what you can also do is take one of the regular 5L
flights to VVI, which are still flying direct or via CBB, and catch your AA
flight in VVI.
Other options are PZ
via CBB to ASU
, or LB
via CBB/VVI to MIA
, and also, Taca from LPB
, or RG
/VVI to GRU
, as those flights are still supposedly on schedule.
It´s not like in October 2003, when the LPB
airport was totally shut down for several days: Now, it´s still open.
The only complicated point would be, how to get to El Alto: But even that, can be managed: Take a cab to the next street blockade, have a friendly look around and for sure one of the locals will run up to help you with your baggage, to make some money while helping you up to the airport.
Just don´t protest, as that will not help you very much with the already tickly arroused rioters. And needless to say: Precaution is wise...
Have a nice trip and come back soon!
