Spairliners: LH And AF For A380 Service

Fri Jun 10, 2005 9:57 pm

Lufthansa Technik and Air France just started a new joint venture that will provide service to Airbus' line of A380 aircraft.

Here is an english article: http://news.moneycentral.msn.com/pro...p?feed=AP&Date=20050610&ID=4882921

I found it first in german: http://www.ftd.de/ub/di/10134.html

IIRC there has been precendence for such a mx-cooperation between competing airlines.
I think it was when the 747-100 was introduced in service in Europe, that LH teamed up with some other airlines to provide common support to the "combined fleet" (IIRC at least SN was involved, for AF I´m not too sure).

Also, the Atlas group was formed between, hmm...KLM, UTA, Swissair and someone else to cooperate on maintenance for the DC-10. One airline performed engine maintenance on the whole group's, another did certain heavy maintenance items, etc.

QF and SQ are talking about a joint facility for the A380 too. When it comes to saving money, they are all friends.

I might be wrong as I haven't checked it, but by memory KSSU stands for KLM SWISSAIR and UTA whereas ATLAS was Air France, Lufthansa, Alitalia?? Sabena.

Anyway, it is not new but the re invention of a good idea. There is no worries anyway when this is crossing Alliances, this is simply a good reason to save money on technical expenses. The marketing departments are a much differnet part of the company and even there, it happens that JAL Cargo cooperates with LH Cargo whereas on the passenger side they are in different groups.

KSSU stands for KLM-SAS-Swissair-UTA who were all DC-8/DC-10 users at the time.

Thanks, PanHAM, you are correct. My memory isn't what it used to be!
