BA Lowers Fares To India

Fri Jun 10, 2005 11:04 pm

On the BA website, BA are advertising low fares to India - they are competitive! I remember, in Feb/Mar, when I was looking for fares to India, months in advance, the cheapest fare with BA was approx £550! Now, flights in July are going for £390 to DEL and BOM!
I think this is the beginning of real competition on the UK-India routes!

And out go the mega profits, especially for the airlines with no connecting traffic (BD, Jet)
You are 100 times more likely to catch a cold on a flight than an average person!

If only they would offer miles on all their fare classes in economy - that would be cool. I fly India-UK every month (in discounted economy  Smile) but never choose BA because I can't earn any miles with them!

Well you get 25% of them, plus any bonuses for silver / gold card, so it's not quite 'no' miles - I agree it's not very good though!

I know what you mean! But, to be honest, BA has little to gain by offering miles to all economy passengers, especially on longhaul - most of their flights go full, especially to India! I find it remarkable, that AF/KL, LH and the like all give miles for discounted economy flights, serve more destinations and yet on average for the past ten years or so, BA still records higher profits!

July isn't really peak travel time for India-bound flights, is it? Too hot, wet, muggy and sultry. I would think fares in July should be significant lower than in January anyway. Of course, I could be wrong.

Still, there will soon be a combined total between London and Bombay of at least 7 to 8 daily flights in each direction and that will only drive fares lower.

BA aren't exactly renowned for offering reductions during peak seasons! Hell, despite this offer, scrap the last part of that sentence...

LOL! And they shouldn't. If they can get away with charging a considerable premium over the competition (which they evidently do), they should charge it.

Tha way to go to BOM is on Swiss nowadays! They have this great promo from BRU to BOM for 532.00 EUR, taxes included, also for the months July and August.

Normally we sell a lot of tickets, but this year our high selling season is NOW....

I see fares coming down to about US $550 during peak season once BA and Jet and others increase their frequencies, and about US $400 during off-peak. Based on the BOM-LHR distance, these fares will still provide a reasonable profit.
