actually, most infant car seats are aircraft approved... the sticker on the side should specify.
Another point - if you ever have an infant and no seat purchased, you should still ask when you check in. In my experience, most airline will give you a spare seat (if there are any of course) for the car seat. Since we always bring our car seat for travel at the far end, it is usually possible to get the infant into a seat that way.
