Information On 10 Tanker Air Carrier

Sun Jun 12, 2005 2:09 pm

I do not believe it is an aerial refueling aircraft, so could someone tell me what is this DC-10?
What is that huge pod attached to the aircraft's belly?
What does this company, 10 Tanker Air Carrier, do?

Wondering the same thing.

Gas tank?
Water tank? (fire fighting...wait...not logical)
Looks like it would be difficult to land and take-off.

I was wondering the same thing.

The ground clearance of that pod looks rather slim; A little too close for comfort if you ask me.

Anyway, my guess is that it transports fuel or other substances that can be quickly off-loaded by detaching the pod.

Does it jettison water while in flight? I thought these birds were a little too fast, too big, and not maneuverable for that sort of thing.

Here is a little blurb I found..

"10 TANKER STC (principals of Omni Air Intl./Cargo Conversions) developed waterbomber conversion for DC-10-10; external tanks under fuselage hold 12,000 gal. and can be loaded in eight minutes and dropped with computer-controlled gravity feed system in eight seconds. It plans to exhibit aircraft and perform water drops at Paris Air Show."

Laxintl, thank you very much for the info.

It must be impressive to see a DC-10 doing low flybies to perform water drops. This surely is fire fighting in great style!

I keep wondering how is it loaded, by a water tank truck, or by any other more imaginative method?
