Woman Stuck In Aircraft Door

Tue Jun 14, 2005 8:18 am

Hey all, I just came back from picking somebody up at the airport and I have a tragically funny story to share. So this person was on AS107 ANC-FAI. So the plane arrived and all the luggage came off of the flight, but very few people came off and not the person I was picking up. Apparently most of the plane was held up due to a woman getting stuck in the aircraft door while trying to exit the plane. I have no idea how she got on the plane, or how she fit in a couple seats, but she got stuck in the door on the way out.

I have a question (if this is true). Wouldn't this woman cause a safety hazard? In case of evacuation, she would plug the door and block other people from exiting. If this is so, could an airline deny her boarding on the basis of safety?

Wow.

Many doors are designed so two passengers can evacuate at once. How large was this woman?

OK so she fitted on the way in but got stuck on the way out. What on Earth did they feed her?!

I know feet swell slightly during flight but not your whole body. Funny story if it is true, cruel but still funny.

In that case I would just push until she popped out like a ripe zit. For evac, disabled pax are probably a bigger problem.

Perhaps she slipped, planted her foot wrong or caught her shoe heel at the door threshold and fell in the doorway. If someone were to fall in the doorway, they might have been injured and couldn't be removed until EMT's arrived to prevent further injury.

Maybe she got stuck in another way!! Maybe she is not as large as everybody thinks... could be something else...

Is there any report on this? If it was true that she got stuck because she is big... then big is an understatement... and I don't think one seat would have been remotely enough for her!!! Damn!!!

I hope she didn't get badly injured!

Well, if she had taken up two seats, she probably ate for two. And maybe she could not fit into the lavatory. 2+2.

lol I saw that program about Southwest Airlines when I was in Canada a couple of months ago and there was this fat lady who was denied boarding the plane unless she paid for two seats and she got so pissed off to begin with then she started crying and then she called her lawyer, because she thought it was discrimination... maybe I am just mean, but it was all quite hilarious to watch  Smile

OK folks, enough already with the fat jokes. You're simply proving that A.net has the collective maturity of a 3 year old. Nobody with sufficient mobility to get to/from the aircraft would be large enough to block a 737 boarding door. In all likelyhood, a very normal sized passenger simply slipped and fell.

Whether she was fat or not maybe debated but it brings up a valid point, as there still are very few (if any) people who could plug a main entrance, but those 737 overwing exits could still be a big problem for quite a few heavy pax. Maybe this is how Southwest can end those "I'm not paying for 2 seats" argument, to get on the plane they must go through one duck

Sounds like the time I was on a PSA MD-81 back in 1983 when a very large man tried to 2x to enter the forward lav face 1st, then got in side-stepping his way in, and the 1st 5 rows and the F/As in the forward galley broke out giggling.

The dude sat in Row 1B and there was a small skinny guy sitting in 1A who became quite intimate with the side of the MD-81.

My cousin who was traveling with me remarked that she thought that the jet would be nose heavy, and put the big dude somewhere in the middle.

Thank God we arrived safely, the dude would have been like the AS dudette, and slowed (if not stop) the evac process had there been an emergency.

In the middle? A very clever move, in sight of a possible evacuation:

She did not have to use the toilet in flight of course., else she would not have caused a problem at the door.  Smile

I had that kind of experience one on a flight from CDG to FRA sitting in C, row 1 on an LH flight. They do not sell the center seat in Business, but this lady was occupying her seat, the center seat and still was overlapping into mine. And she continued to SZG on OS which is usually an F70.

Shows you how big of a problem obesity has become in America.

But then the National FB's Association of America and the ACLU(American Civil Liberties Union) would sue the airlines for discriminating against people who are fat as how everything goes in this great country. (BTW I love America I just hate the ACLU and all of the greedy lawyers in this country)

Sorry I didn't get to update with info sooner, I've been busy with work and tutoring math. I never saw the woman, because I was waiting in the car outside. My friend went into baggage claim to find the person we were picking up. The person we were picking up said that a large woman got stuck in the door. Granted, it could have been a large woman who slipped, but the way he worded it, it sounded like she was too big for the door.
