AC To Start 767 Upgrades In Early 2006

Tue Jun 14, 2005 11:36 pm

Air Canada will start the interior upgrades to its B767 fleet next year. Both 763s and 762s will receive the new 777 type interior along with new IFE and conexions by Boeing. The article doesn’t mention anything regarding the installation of winglet that has been mentioned before by AC. I would assume that AC would only want take these aircraft out of service only once and get all the installations completed. Has anyone herd anything regarding the winglets for AC’s 767s. Will they be blended winglets or standard ones like on CO’s 757s.

Actually the 762s will not get the new 777 cabin, they will just get new seats and IFE.

Interesting, this is the first I've heard of Connexion being installed on AC's fleet. They're really improving their product.

One question though regarding the NG Lie-Flat seats, are these "lie-flat" (like BA, VS, SA) seats or sloped lie flat seats?

Continental's 757s have APB blended winglets. If Air Canada goes for winglets for its 767s, they will also be APB blended winglets.

When will the long haul airbus fleet go?

Milton has stressed in a few investor presentations that these new seats will be truly lie flat, not angled like those in the A345s currently.

AC's 330/340 fleet will be slowly withdrawn from service to coincide with the deliveries of the 773ERs/772LRs. So I wouldn't expect all of AC's airbus widebodies gone until 2010 or later. Air Canada just acquired another A340 to relives some pressure on its over stretched long haul fleet.

Truely flat is the way to go. British Airways' lie-flat J-class seats are the best.

Great to see the 763s will be getting the newer interior. It is such an improvement for such a fine aircraft.

Good news! This is a much needed update. I can hardly wait to see the 777 and 787 in AC livery.

I must say, that I am not a regular flier, but this is welcomed news.

Air Canada apparently is turning things around, and has realized that customers want perks.

Great news, and I can't wait to fly on a 767 with the new interior  Smile

Can't wait to see what the new interiors look like. Hopefully AC upgrade their website to promote their seating once the retrofits begin and the 777s start to arrive. Frankly, I think that AC.com presents one of the worst seating information sections of any major airline. It's time for them to have media glorifying J and making Y look super-comfortable with all the happy pax.  Silly

I assume they will install the new seat that is on the A345. They are angled and not lie flat, which in turn suprises me because Air Canada should be offering a seat that is within the realms of their Class description, 'Executive First'. Besides they only have two classes to consider, so one would expect them to offer a truely lie flat seat, not the angled.

What do you guys think?

I would think that the A345s would be the last on the list to upgrade if at all. I think AC will do each Aircraft when the D check is due. The A345s are just at a years age and so they are still new. However I could be wrong.

I've heard the A340-500 will be the first to go when they get the B777-200LR's

No, the new J seat is a true lie-flat seat as per Milton earlier this year. It has yet to be announced as to which actual seat it is.

as i seem to say almost daily, way to go AC. I can't believe how good their product is coming together. In a way i am glad I will be on the 'old' 762's in September, because I can then compair with everything they give me extra in the future.

btw, what is AC like at upgrades, and whats the best way to go about getting one? i'm flying economy in seat 18A, on 11th September this year from GLA-YYZ. Any tips?

the 767 can't get blended winglets right now because they are yet to be certified. I believe they are the next aircraft to get them, now that the 757 is certified. Then, it will be either the 90s 777 models or the 747-1 to 3 to follow, depending on which article you read about them.

If you want to see what they look like (not color, and probably not exact seats, but the bins and ceilings and walls and such), look up CO 767 interiors on the photo section. All CO 767s have the 777 style interior.

The 767s definitely are in need of a sprucing up in the cabin--although as to the seat I went across the Pacific in AC exec first recently (I have often raved about how superb I thought their product already is in exec first so th new product should be truly outstanding)--

anyway I went YVR ICN on a 763 and back from HKG on an A343--as I say both in exec first--to be honest I found the 763 (although dated style, interior)--I found it a more comfortable chair than the 343--considerably so. For one it was electrically operated and seemed roomier than the 343--

I am sure the 763s will be pretty nice once refreshed--

767s when 2-1-2 in first are some of the most comfortable around as long as the seat is designed well. When it's 2-2-2, then most other A/C types are better.

AC configures ExecutiveFirst in 1-2-2, or 2-2-1, in its 763s, so all seats are aisle seats, except for 1 seat, which is certainly superior to 2-1-2. I just hope AC keeps the 767s like this (unless the new seats are such that 1-2-1 is feasible Big grin)

I for one am glad that AC's 767's are getting a new look with better IFE and seats. From looking at the pictures, a Transatlantic flight on one of those in Y-class would have me so bored. I think when DL gets back into the black(hpopefully within my lifetime) they can upgrade their 764's to have IFE in Y at every seat.

that's cool beans! if they were to do some sort of suite product, 1-1-1 is usually all they'd have room for. A340s with suites are 1-1-1, while the wider 777s tend to be 1-2-1, so I would assume the 767 would be 1-1-1 as well.

If it's not a suite product but some other sort of hybrid, then 1-2-1 might work.
