Pan Am 722 N348PA @JFK

Wed Jun 15, 2005 2:59 pm

Was spotting yesterday @ JFK with Tommy A and found ourselves at 13L watching arrivals in the afternoon. After watching enough B6 and DL to make us sick Tommy spotted something wierd. We then notice it's a 727. Then as it gets closer we see a livery you don't see anymore! Pan Am! A 722. Regi N348PA! We snapped away and though the motiv in the pics were good the light was not so I am not going to post it here. I will ask Tommy to post one of his here. Only two pics of this bird in the database!

That bird was operating a charter flight to SFB. Even if it's just a charter, seeing those colors at JFK is a good thing.

About two weeks ago, my El Al 744 had an engine fire and returned to JFK...As I got off the plane at Terminal 4, I saw a Pan Am 727 pulling into a gate on the other side of T4. It was quite a feeling, seeing a Pan Am 727 at JFK!

Later that night, I'm 90% sure I saw that flight crew in the hotel that El Al put us up at.

Saw N349PA "Clipper Juan Trippe" taxiing past last Friday June 10 when I was sitting in the JFK Delta lounge at Terminal 3 (former Pan Am Worldport)..I know this Pan Am is an abomination but it was still nice to see the Blue Meatball at JFK again!

For all those spotters who miss seeing the Pan Am logo, I think Pan Am serves EWR and they also serve SWF.

So if you want to catch the current Pan Am in New York those are the two airports to go to.

Pan Am comes into EWR once in a blue moon, hardly ever here

EWR is only charter; scheduled service from SWF to SFB and PIE start in July.

Yeah even with the crappy conditions to take pics it was worth seeing this bird come back home to JFK. Here's the pics.

Thanks Tommy! Big grin

Good stuff.

Wish the sun was better. That would have been a winner. It was good to spot that rare bird though.

Yeah they're at BDL as well operating under some schedule-charter airline certificate like ATA (did)(does). They operate from PWM I think as well and just go down to SFB and some other destinations in Florida. Last I heard they were Boston-Maine Clipper Airways and they were getting sued for some ridiculous thing by some company in Concord, New Hampshire. Other than that I don't know too much more.

Their homebase is PSM (former SAC Pease AFB) and probably they are still being sued for moving their operating certificate to Boston & Maine to get rid of their union pilots. Not particularly ridiculous if you ask me. Guilford Rail, the parent company, run things as they see fit, public and employees be damned.
