"Maryland One" Planned Schedules

Thu Jun 16, 2005 3:28 am

I'm not really interested in starting another lengthy "Peter Maxx"-type thread, but perhaps for the next week or so one of our WN dispatcher friends could post the planned schedule for the following day or so of "Maryland One", with the rest of us keeping in mind that the schedule could change at a moment's notice.

Maryland One is WN's newest special livery aircraft. It is painted in a rendering of the Maryland state flag.

According to our Operations Manager, MD-1 passed through here this morning around 8:40, which means I missed him by about 30 minutes.

Being born in Baltimore, I love this jet. Didn't see it coming though. But it's a pleasant surprise. I've always loved that flag. Will it ever get down to PHX or up to SEA?

It was a great thing to have in B-more. Sort of a vindication of the Operation WN has at BWI. I think everyone from Maryland was done proud by WN.

Yeah, first revenue flight was DAL-MSY this morning then made it's way up to MDW. Going out to the west coast now for few legs..

In checking my paper schedule, perhaps it operated 972 DAL-MSY, then 1651 MSY-BHM-SDF-MDW scheduled into MDW at 12:25pm.

Ok, is every state WN flies to going to get a 737 painted in its flag? Or is Maryland special? We know it is special in the "special ed" sense of the word (see rioting university students).

What begs the question is: "What makes Maryland special to have its own livery on a WN aircraft?"

The colors makes it look medieval times visits present times.... So ugly, IMO!

Any chance of more details regarding any potential visits to SMF? I know it's all subject to change, but I may take a trip out there if I know it's coming and I'm not busy.

Yeah, that was the first thing I did when I got there. Even checked for tomorrow and at the time I checked, it wasn't scheduled for SAN.

Grrrr....this is going to be like when I was waiting to see N201LV for the first time. It took about a month before that aircraft and myself were at SJC at the same time.

WN has a number of planes' liveries done as renderings of the state flags of cities where they have large operations, i.e. Arizona, Nevada, California, Texas, New Mexico (how big are their ops at Albuquerque, anyway?), and now Maryland. In fact, BWI is WN's third largest hub, and was the launching point for their wildly successful foray into the Northeast (much to the chagrin of US, but that's another topic!).

Quoting AirframeAS (Reply 17):

Keep in mind that Maryland was chartered as a colony almost 400 years ago, in the early 1600's! The flag is based on British heraldry (coats of arms of noble families). The design is based on the coat of arms used by George Calvert, the first Lord Baltimore. It is the only United States flag based on British heraldry (coats of arms of noble families). Not surprising that it looks almost medieval.

Renderings of the flag are now used in many instances where the state government has a role... the Univ of Maryland logo, the Baltimore MTA (buses and subway) logo, etc.

Out on the west coast today, SMF-BUR-SJC-SNA-SMF-SNA-OAK terminating in OAK.

Tomorrow, tentatively scheduled for OAK-LAX-BNA-BDL and terminate at BDL..

No, No, NO OPNLguy!! You must have forgotten...I don't work at SJC anymore! She needs to be sent to SAN. Say it with me, "SSSSSAAAAAANNNNN"...

Haha. Ah, the frustrations of trying to see a specific aircraft...All I ask is that I get to see her before the gloss, and the "new car" smell goes away.  Sad

This is purely from memory...so don't hold me to it. I think tomorrow it does BDL-MDW-BDL-PHX(?)-LAS-OAK-LAX.

I think take out PHX as WN doesn't do BDL-PHX that or it doesn't go back to BDL...
According to the WN timetable, it COULD do BDL-MDW-PHX..then the LAS time doesn't match up though, unless it sits for 50 mins...ELP, LAX, SJC, and I guess LAS and STL could work...also LAS-OAK-LAX doesn't match...are you thinkin LAS-LAX-OAK-RNO then PDX or LAS are possible from there and it would probably head east.

That's why I put the "?" after PHX. I know for a fact the BDL-MDW-BDL thing is correct, and I know it goes through OAK and terminates in LAX. I'm pretty sure I saw LAS in there somewhere. But there is something missing here...oh well, I tried. Just have to wait for OPNLguy who will prove me wrong on all counts...hopefully because he changed its routing to SAN.

Nevermind...that must be it. Sometimes when looking at the routing on the computer, I overlook legs of a "through flight" and only pay attention to the end of that specific flight. BDL-BWI-MDW-PHX would be one flight...flt. 821. I didn't notice the BDL-BWI-MDW portion. So yeah, that must be what it's doing tomorrow. Memory can suck...haha.

Anyway...yeah...I'm bored tonight.

does WN 2147 LAX-STL-FLL ring a bell? would arrive at 5:30pm and leave at 6:15pm as WN 221 arriving at 8:55pm then departing at 9:20pm to BHM as WN829? or WN1420 leaving BWI for CMH at 9:30pm...thats what I got!
