Happy Anniversary Independence Air

Thu Jun 16, 2005 9:40 pm

At the risk of starting (yet another) long, long Indy bashing thread, I wanted to mention that today is the 1st Anniversary of Independence Air.
It shouldn't be long before the bashing begins, as well as the predictions: "I give them 3 months." "They'll be out of business by the end of the year." "They won't make it til the 4th of July."
I'm happy to say so far all the nay-sayers have been wrong, and I hope that they continue to be wrong as Indy continues to grow. Best of luck and congratulations Indy!

No bashing from me. I just flew indy last weekend IAD-RDU-IAD. Although my outbound was delayed 1.5 hours due to weather in other parts of the country, the flight crew was friendly and really went the extra mile. The captain actually greeted me by name and welcomed me aboard at the gate. Loads were good on both flights. That was my second trip with Indy and I won't hesitate to use them again. I for one am really hoping they make it.

Flew them recently MCO-IAD-JFK just to check them out.
Everything was smooth and extremely nice staff. Tried to get an earlier flight back from JFK but everything was booked solid. Every leg of the trip the planes were pretty much full.
Other than a weather delay, IAD-MCO, all was on time and without any hitches. Congrats INDY! May there be many more years to come!

Have DH's people on the ground improved any? I flew them a couple of times in the beginning and the difference between being on the plane and off it was obscene. It was heaven within and hell outside.

I flew on them a couple of months ago and, honestly, thought their service was pretty good. To me, their biggest drawback is the extensive RJ fleet, especially when I had the choice to go on a UA 737 to IAD at the next gate. But for all the people who bash them, I thought they were decent.

Now, their finances are another story..... let's hope they are rebounding from their less than stellar beginning.
None shall pass!!!!

Happy Birthday Independence Air! Granted, I haven't been a fan of the airline since what they did to me when I applied for a job with them, but they certainly have undone many of the wrongs that they attempted when they first converted their United Express operation to Independence. The most important thing for them to do right now is to get their yields up, thus their breakeven loadfactor down, and they might have a halfway decent shot at surviving, maybe even long enough that I will get over my grudge against them!

The sound you're hearing is the scores of A.netters who said they wouldn't last a year (or less) eating crow........

It is honestly a surprise that they've been able to survive a year, the question now is "Will they make to their second birthday?"

You manage to work this into any and all IAir threads, are you ever going to let go of it?

Would you if you were in my shoes? Somehow I have a feeling that the answer would be very similar to those answers given by David Spade on the Capital One commercials...

I have no opinion one way or the other on FlyI. For the sake of their employees and their customers, I hope that the airline lasts. Being a SkyMiles guy, I have CO, DL and NW to choose from, although I occasionally get stuck on CRJs there, too. The extensive RJ fleet, coupled with their disassociation with SkyMiles, makes me stay away.

That being said, my travel plans call for travel to the Cleveland area at least three more times this year. I have a flight planned on NW, but I am thinking of giving FlyI a chance just to formulate an opinion. Still, even if I take one flight, you cannot really formulate a great opinion - but it is better than the nay-sayers who have never used them that spout off just because they prefer other airlines. I think I can handle the CRJ from IAD-CLE on a short flight, with my PBI-IAD legs on a brand new 319.

There has been numerous jobs that passed on me for whatever reason, I have since let it go and moved on..... You can only beat the dead horse so long.
