Will KL/AF Take The Ex-TAM F-100's?

Fri Jun 17, 2005 12:50 am

After the order today for 20 A320's for TAM it's clear that they will replace their F100's. Will KL/AF take them? I know LH and OS are also interested in the F-100.... When will those A320's be delivered?

Weren't those A320s to be delivered from 2012? I think in that case this questioned is a bit early...

KL already operates an ex-TAM aircraft... but when Rekkof will be launched ( i doubt it) i think KL will take some more F-100's , as well as AF, otherwise i see them rather replacing the F-100 fleet.

owh and the ex-TAM aircraft is PH-LMV , its leased so could be for short term (woudn't suprise me as this is one of the oldest F-100's flying)

In fact JJ will need other planes to replace the F100 fleet as the leasing will mature on 2008. May be some of the GECAS E190 order of yesterday could be granted to JJ. TAM is talking with Embraer trying to find a way to finance an E190 acquisition and they stated some days ago that it's the best option. So during 2007/2008 some F100 could be taken by AF/KL.

F100 will be phased out by TAM which is decided some 8 years ago already but they are moving them quite slow.
Of course the A320 is clearly no F100 replacement.

Still in doubt Maurice Big grin there is really no need to.
Anyway KLM is after F70's not F100's.

PH-LMV is ex PT-MQM with cn.11301 in other words number 66 of the production line, not exactly the oldest.

PPffff I sure hope not, received the first avionics from PH-LMV for service during this week......... boy oh boy  worried
Please KLM have mercy with me..... I am doing enough overtime already.  pray

For me it is not clear that TAM will replace the F100. TAM is in a solid fleet expansion. RG is reducing its network and TAM will fill the gap. The F-100 is an excellent a/c for a market such as Brazil with several regional destinations.

Of course, TAM already stated it wants to keep a young fleet so they may well replace the F-100s with the more modern and updated Embraers jets.

Although TAM has maintained their F100s very well I don't think the ex-TAM F100s are the best to buy/lease as they've endured more during their few years at JJ than they will have over a lifetime at a carrier in Europe or the US.

True, I wonder what the effects are of operating a F100 in those hot/humid conditions compared to a F100 operating in Europe.
