Omega Air KDC-10 Tankers

Fri Jun 17, 2005 8:05 pm

Does anyone know where Omega Air had the tanker conversions carried out on the DC-10s?

I know that they had booms fitted but I believe that they had some wing pods fitted too. Were they carried out in the same place?

Thanks,

I was under the impression that the DC-10-40 that they are showing off doesn't actually have any real tanker capability, as all the dangly parts weren't actually operational. I think they're still doing all of their contract tanking solely witht he 707s.

Spacepope,

I've heard that rumour too, but it does seem strange that they go to the trouble of installing the pods and not finish off with putting the pipes in too.

I've seen this image from their Global Airtanker Service website

Is this just for show?

The aircraft that visited RIAT and Farnborough last year was a tanker mockup. Inside it was a full passenger cabin the wing pods and boom were both removed before flight.
