Is Indigo For Real?

Fri Jun 17, 2005 10:45 pm

The title pretty much says it all. I found it surprising that a start-up would order 100 aircraft, usually it's more modest, say 10-15 aircraft. This means these guys have very deep pockets to afford the large down payment (perhaps $200 million?).

Personally, I'm skeptical.

Why? Because they haven`t ordered Boeing aircrafts?  scratchchin

Remember, the part investor in Indigo is Rakesh Gangwal, the ex-CEO of US Airways. When he left US Airways, he got a "golden parachute" to the order of about $64 million, not to count the innumerable millions he may have made when he was at US Airways as United as salary and bonuses before that. If I recall right, when JetBlue started up, with an initial capital of $100 mn, it was the best capitalized startup airline of its time. So I wouldn't put it past them to get this thing off the ground.
