FRA<->GLA On BA --- Question

Sat Jun 18, 2005 5:22 am

Hi guys, my girlfriend is flying FRA <-> GLA at the end of July. The flight numbers are the following:

BA4102, FRA->GLA
BA1764, GLA->FRA

The BA booking system didn't say anything about type of plane or via where the flights go. From the BAA WWW site for Glasgow I got that, apparently, the first one is an ERJ-145 and the second one is an Avro RJ1000. Both go via Bristol.

Any anyone, please, confirm or deny this?

Thank you,

Tony

The BA1764 flt number makes me think that that flight goes via BHX or MAN, and not BRS.
Just checked Amadeus and
BA4102 is an ERJ145 via BRS
BA1764 is an ERJ145 via BHX

Did LH ever fly to/from Glasgow? I have only flown them into/outof EDI recently (since 2002).

Yeh they did. They definately served FRA, possibly DUS and MUC aswell but I'm not 100% sure. There were very strong rumours a few years ago of a return but there has been nothing recent.

I'm not so sure that LH ever served GLA, at least not from FRA. There are FRA/EDI flights 3x D.

I flew FRA/BHX/GLA last year and that was an ER4 on both sectors, but not the same. Plane change at BHX.

My memory may be fading but I do remember the mountainsin the back, Have been there often enough, but alway on BA/FI/SK.

It's quite a while ago that LH served GLA, they had 732's on the route. OK my apologies, mate.

Cheers

They used to serve GLA from FRA using Bae 146s (op by Business Air I think) daily, then it reduced to saturdays only, before being withdrawn completely

LH used to fly FRA-GLA 1 x daily on various B737 equipment. Flight was due to be introduced late March 1992 but was put back to 1st July 1992 - for what reason I don't remember. Flight numbers were LH4112 inbound and LH4115 outbound. Flight operated for around 3 years or so. Flight was poorly timed for the business community (left GLA 1200 or so, arrived FRA 1500) but sustained pretty good loads - even saw some of the bigger B737's, A320's and a couple of A300's during the summer months. Believe it was scrapped due to cost cutting measures - they scaled it back to a Saturday/Sunday operation by II (Business Air) on BAe 146 - the only reason it was Saturday/Sunday was due to the fact that the II 146 used to operate LH's LCY-FRA 3 x weekday service during the week. Then they scrapped it altogether.

Previous to that they flew GLA-FRA during the 1970's - possibly with touchdown in MAN.

There was also a GLA-DUS (LH5563/LH5562 and LH5543/LH5542) service by former subsidiary DLT (now LH Cityline) during the late 80's and early 90's which was operated by one of the Embraer Turboprops (don't remember which one) and towards the end a Fokker 50 - again sustained good loads but had poor timings.

EDI-FRA commenced with 2 daily flights and a few years later was increased to 3 per day.

LH Cargo also used to have a B744F operation to/from PIK.
