Multiple Itineraries In The Same Time Period

Sat Jun 18, 2005 10:48 pm

Hi there, this is my first post on Airliners having just signed up, although I have been an avid reader for a while now.

I am planning a trip to Vegas for a birthday bash and as I am already in the US, I am thinking of extending my trip for a couple of weeks, with my partner joining me after the birthday bash in NYC.

I have read on A.net that airlines can and do cancel itineraries by the same individual if they include same day travel on both itineraries. What I am looking at doing is having two separate itineraries covering a 3/4 week period, but the dates of travel will not be duplicated.

What I am looking at is as follows:

Itinerary 1:
LHR-LAX-LAS
LAS-JFK
JFK-LHR

Itinerary 2:
JFK-LAX
LAX-HNL
HNL-SFO
SFO-JFK

All on UA, my partner would also have two itineraries, the first one simply being LHR-JFK-LHR and the second on being as itinerary two above.

As there are no duplicate travel dates, will we face a problem with UA canceling one of the itineraries?

Any help or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Diolch yn fawr/Many thanks

You only risk cancellation is you're booked on the same day on the same itinerary. Since there is no overlap on either itinerary you're totally fine. Many people buy two tickets on the same day XXX-YYY and then YYY-ZZZ because it's cheaper to buy that than XXX-YYY-ZZZ on one ticket.

I've done that and never had any problems. When I've had XXX-YYY as part of two different itineraries on the same day and same flight number then, sometimes, I've had problems. The trick in the latter case seems to be putting different FF numbers in the two records e.g. if XXX-YYY is a UA flight, then I might put my LH M&M number in one record and my BD DC number in the other. As long as I have different FF numbers in the record, then I've never had a problem double booking a flight.

Yep, Zvezda scheme is right. You must use two different FFs, or risk losing all your miles his way.

But doing an international roundtrip, and then doing some domestic (any country) travel in the middle of that trip on a different itinerary does not break any rules of any airline AFAIK. It doesn't short change them any money, and you aren't doing it to try to "cheat" them.

If you were to do a reverse round trip and return to LHR in the middle to save cost, that would be a violation of their contract of carriage. I do not believe this is though.
Of all the things to worry about... the Wookie has no pants.
