Top 10 Longest (nonstop & Both Ways) Flights List

Mon Jun 20, 2005 4:17 am

Hi!

As the title says, I want to make a list of the top 10 longest nonstop flights. And only those who are done both ways are elegible!

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think the first 7 are (I'm already counting with Thai's BKK-LAX as it's about to start):

1) SIN-EWR - 15344km / 9534 mi / 8285nm - A340-500

2) SIN-LAX - 14114km / 8770 mi / 7621 nm - A340-500

3) BKK-JFK - 13977km / 8660 mi / 7525 nm - A340-500

4) BKK-LAX - 13297 km / 8262 mi / 7180 nm - A340-500/A340-600??

5) HKG-NYC - 12979 km / 8065 mi / 7008 nm - A340-600 / B777-200ER

6) MEL-LAX - 12748 km / 7921 mi / 6883 nm - B747-400ER

7) HKG-ORD - 12543 km / 7794 mi / 6773 nm - B747-400

8) ....

9) ...

10) ...

Do you guys know what the 8th, 9th and 10th are(if my first 7 are correct)?

Regards

If your top 7 are correct, then I think LHR-SIN at 6765nm would be next on the list, or maybe MAN-SIN (don't know if they're non-stop) at 6812nm.

MAN-KUL is 6640nm

Regards,

Feroze

EDIT: Just checked and MAN-SIN are non-stop on certain days, via ZRH on others.

You are all confusing nm with mi!!

The distances you are stating are in mi (statute miles... those are imperial milles... what british and americans use for ground distances... in roads and such)!

nm are nautical milles, which are the ones used in aviation.

1 mi = 1.609 km
1 nm = 1.852 km

So it goes like this:
LHR - SIN 5878 nm
MAD - SCL 5777 nm
JNB - SYD 5963 nm
EWR - DEL 6364 nm

So... maybe the EWR - DEL has a chance of being in the list... but i doubt it...

Top 5 out of JFK:
BKK - 8660 (A340-500)
HKG - 8072 (A340-600)
ICN - 6906 (B747-400)
PEK - 6837 (B747-400)
DXB - 6849 (A340-500)

Top 5 out of EWR:
SIN - 9543 (A430-500)
HKG - 8065 (B777-200)
PEK - 6831 (B777-200)
NRT - 6732 (B777-200)
TLV - 5692 (B777-200/B747-400)-probably too short to make it on the big list.

DXB-JFK is "just" 11022 km. Not as far as many people think it is.
Now if/when EK starts operating to east coast US nonstop, that will be long!

Time for Trivia....First person with the correct answer wins a prize.

Who holds the Record for LONGEST COMMERCIAL FLIGHT EVER?
In Time., not miles.
Anyone care to wager a guess?

I'll offer some clues.

1. The flight began in Europe.
2. It was a scheduled flight..not a charter, military, or re-positioning.

I know that an A340-200 flew from Paris (not sure of the airport... maybe LBG) to new zealand (probably auckland).
I'm not sure if that holds the record... maybe...

Sydney-San Francisco is only 70 odd miles shorter than Sydney-La but both flights only take 14 plus hours on the return sector, as for world record flight times, i can give you the world record domestic flight, Qantas 2901 from Melbourne to Melbourne via Antarctica with a flight time of over 14hrs in 2003.

the #5 or #6 will be taken from IAH-LHE/ISB when PK start their 777-200LR service from next year.... biggrin

IAH-LHE=7080 nm
IAH-ISB=6944 nm

if it was going to fly to KHI nonstop, then it would be even longer....there is an outside possibility they might since the flight ends/originates @ KHI.

IAH-KHI=7371 nm

Shoot, longest commercial flight in time, so it didn't go anywhere? Was it scheduled to go that long, or was it diverted and everyone had to stay on?
