Would strong winds accross the Pacific cause the A345 to have to refuel in ANC.....Do you know if SIN-EWR had to make a stop????

Coming from BKK-JFK the winds would be tail winds, so would actually help the flight. If you were going JFK-BKK heading into the winds it could effect fuel burn.

Speaking of this flight, the last couple of times I've noticed this flight is almost always delayed (with a tailwind). It usually shows up a half an hour late. I don't believe it's because of congestion at BKK because this flight leaves after midnight. Do you think Thai Airways was ahead of themselves with the timing of the flight? Does the return flight to BKK arrive on time?

The flight was delayed almost 5 hours, sounds like more than a refuel divert.

6thfreedom is right. BKK during 11:00-01:00 are very busy. I remembered my KE flight to ICN and DFW last year, we waited almost 20 minutes after left the gate before actually took off.

yeah but luckily my QF 01 flight took only 10 minutes to get to take off but TG JFK just pushed out after us, had to depart 20 minutes late due to incoming crew.

Wow, I didn't know it was peak hour between 23:00 and 01:00 in BKK. Is it the same at other Asian airports, like SIN, KUL, ICN, NRT, TPE? Funny to see how the time difference can determine peak hours at airports worldwide  Smile

BKK is one of few with THIS MUCH ACTIVITY AT THIS HOUR AND THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT...

Dubai and Bangkok and Singapore I found to be the truly busier than usual 24 hr airports.

Tokyo NARITA is DEAD at midnight - doors locked!!!!

Hong Kong CLK, and Taipei have some activity at night - like cargo and some pax.

NOW back to the question - why was TG diverted - FUEL or OTHER?

It all has to do with geography and time zones.
KUL and SIN which are in the same time zome as BKK are more or less flat out at the time of the day also.

Back to the topic, I've read in a local website that it needs emergency landing because one passenger has medical problem.

I seriously doubt that. ORD ground would probably shoot you if you asked to taxi under tow that far  Smile ORD is the busiest airport in the World by movements.

Heck, I've been chewed out by ground in RDU while brakeriding on TWY A before.

ArtBKK probably has it right, but even though this flight would normally have tailwinds, the winds this summer have been quite the opposite of normal of late. Some of our NRT flights to EWR have taken a much more southern route to make it on time due to the lack of tailwinds over Alaska and Northern Canada.
