American Eagle To Launch GPT-DFW

Tue Jun 21, 2005 5:01 am

Continuing with AA's rapid build-up along the Gulf Coast, AA will launch 2x daily ERJ service from GPT to DFW on October 30th.

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/050620/dam034.html?.v=17

In the past 8 months, AA has launched PNS-DFW, PNS-ORD, MOB-DFW and will launch VPS-DFW and VPS-STL next month. AA finally found the big hole in their route map and are filling it fast.

I was expecting this one.

And as always, where DFW comes, ORD and MIA may follow...

Oh, and in addition, American Eagle is evaluating service to Melbourne and Panama City. I wouldn't be surprised to see MLB added this October with two ERJs to Dallas, possibly a seasonal RJ to O'Hare, and likely a daily ATR to Miami.

MAH - It's interesting that there's talk from all of this new service and stuff. I understand that fleet utilization is going way up, but where are they going to make all of these flights appear from when the Embraer well dries up in a couple of weeks (at least I think)? I'd like to see MIA out of TOL and another to DFW...but with all of this new service I think it's going to be one or the other. Thanks for any info =)

Leave no mistake, the new service is coming at the expense of other services. Namely, the reduction of Eagle's point-to-point routes. In addition, mainline is being added back into some markets to move RJs to new ones.

I think it's a smart move on AA's part. They currently have hubs in a few of the largest O/D markets in the US which brings in a lot of revenue that way. Throw in the fact these cities are major international gateways and all of the connecting opportunities, they have to be bringing in higher yields. If a build up of MIA would be anything like it was out of DFW, they would still bring in a lot of passengers from some of these second hand airports. Btw, heard that MLI is already getting a second one to DFW.

Another smart move by Eagle. DFW is a great hub, in a great location, and this is just continuing to fill in the holes left by DL's pullout. I'm still waiting for MGM, TLH, CRW, ROA, ASV, CAE, CHS, and MYR, though!

If FL couldn't make it work (they tried long before the ramp up @ DFW) with one flight a day, what makes them think 2 flights a day using ERJs will work?

Huh? That makes no sense.

airTran ran a daily 717 that relied entirely on O&D traffic. American Eagle is running two daily ERJs (which seat less people than one 717) that feed into the world's second largest hub operation.

And airTran ending DFW-GPT (and HOU-GPT) had to do with the fact that the subsidies by local casinos were dropped. The local casinos still subsidize FLL-GPT and TPA-GPT service.

I think FL's GPT-DFW/HOU flights were funded by a casino or two down in GPT. Not sure which one's.

BTW, every new city that AE has added out of DFW over the last few weeks have been running very full, and many of them are oversold most days of the week. DFW-PNS is just crazy, I wouldn't be surprised to see a MD-80 or two in that market before too long.

ASV!?! Kenya to DFW? That would be a flight on a ERJ -  laughing

AE flew to ROA only while the RDU hub was open, it that correct? ROA is my hometown, I wold love to see AA/AE serve them again. Interesting fact, AA was ROA's first airline.

I've heard the same thing about DFW-PNS. I keep hearing that just about every flight, every day, is going out oversold. Of course, as always, loads don't necessarily equal profits, but in the case of a market that is less than a year old, selling out every single flight ain't bad!

ROA is being looked at, from O'Hare. As are Charlottesville and Erie.

Sorry. I meant AVL, Asheville, NC, which I think could easily support 2 daily ERJ-140s to DFW.

ROA would be a great market for Eagle, and I bet it would be a success from ORD or DFW, but I think DFW offers far more connections to larger cities with more flights and bigger planes, and it is so much less congested. That being said, though, I'm sure ORD has more O&D from ROA than DFW does.

CHO surprises me, as I thought it was too small a market for Eagle RJs, and ERI doesn't -- I'm sure ERI would love some more competition for US up there.

ORD-ROA not only has more O&D, but it simply makes more geographic sense and has a shorter stage length. American Eagle, with their limited resources, really can't afford to run an ERJ on a market as thin as DFW-ROA.

I haven't been keeping pace with the UAX Air Whiskey deal, but is ROA - ORD with UAX going to disappear with the departure of Air Whiskey from UAX, or is AA considering ROA to compete against UAX?

AA is quietly replacing many of the unique routes Delta abandoned when duhubbing DFW. Good move by AA.

Took DFW-TOL last week and have to say...was glad to see how strong it was doing. Booked to 49 I believe for that flight I was on (they are running 50 seats to TOL and 46 back due to fuel requirements). Apparently the load factor so far for the route itself is over 70% and ORD by itself is running over 80%. I can only hope American is watching this city and will throw them a couple more flights. The Airport director and air service manager go to DFW next week to meet with them.

I have a hard time believing that AA is ready to jump into ORD-ERI/CHO/ROA etc based upon their limited resources --mainly RJ's & operating limitations at ORD.

AA is non-existant in these US-strongholds, that in some ways are still heavy US strongholds with NW taking a strong 2nd in ERI, and DL also operating in these markets. Even NW was having difficulty originally in CHO when they dropped service the first time and only restarted Saab service to DTW this year.

It just seems like they would go for more of the MIA build-up and connecting the dots on cities to give them service to both ORD & DFW before jumping into these smaller markets.

AA is always looking at new, limited-compietition markets to add. Of the three, ORD-ERI is the only one that is being looked at very seriously. In fact, don't be surprised to hear an ORD-ERI announcement this year.

I thought I read somewhere, that FL is discontinuing GPT-FLL/TPA service. But I guess not.

Music to my ears!

A long needed void in GPT services will soon be fufilled.

BTW Beau Rivage is the casino behind FL GPT-FLL/TPA flts. I would hope FL adds more GPT-ATL frequncey as it could be used.

Would expect GPT to follow PNS and MOB in selling out seats very fast. A lot of these markets have been demanding DFW for a long time and its obivious the demand is real. Diffently will be expecting GPT-DFW expansion in the near, rather than distant future. Hopefully ORD will follow.

So far its been a good summer for GPT, DL will be adding 2x MD88 this fall, according to CO on line reservation a second 735 will be heading GPT way also this fall. Now if NW could keep DC9 on all the GPT-MEM flts and add DTW/MSP things would be grand for this round of developments!
