i was supposed to be on that plane back from MIA!!! in fact, they subsituted the 744 that was languishing there from the previous day's cancellation, so we got back without much delay.

MIA is chaos at the moment - 2 days of major problems due to the weather...

hahaha Chaos? I wouldn't get so excited about it... this is typical in the summer and the airlines that fly to MIA, FLL, PBI, MCO, TPA etc... know it.
It's called .. FLORIDA SUMMER THUNDERSTORMS and DOWNPOURS.

Now chaos is when Hurricanes are fast approaching and airlines are A) trying to get as many passengers out of there as they can and B) ultimately getting their airplanes out of harm's way.

well I thought it was pretty chaotic - I missed a day of work because of it, got messed about by AA, the staff at the connections centre all looked stressed, tempers were frayed, hundreds of people getting accomodation vouchers etc.

I am sure that a hurricane is more chaotic, but given the airport was closed at various times and there were hours and hours of delays to hundreds of flights, I would say it qualifies as at least minor chaos  Smile

is BA flying 2 daily 744's still into MIA? along w/ AA's daily 772?

The BA 207 MCO diversion was for fuel due to holding caused by MIA weather as well
as a lightning strike !

It typically isn't this bad in Miami.

BA flies two daily 744s year-round, plus an additional two weekly in the winter.

Living in Miami 18 years, this weather is not a surprise and yes it can be typical weather during the summer months. Maybe not an everyday thing but not unsual.... ! .

Don't BA send 744's there regularly? MCO is a big tourist destination. Aren't VS planning to operate an A380 into it?

No to both.

BA's 747-400s are all based in Heathrow, and British Airways flies to Orlando from Gatwick.

VS' A380-800s will all be based in Heathrow, and, again, Virgin Atlantic flies to Orlando from Gatwick. VS' A380-800s are also being configured in a low-density, premium configuration that could never make money flying to Orlando.
