The website states:

"Technical Records well maintained and up dated."

Gee, does that make the price go up?

How weird!!!! Why didn't they post this on eBay?

I am want to purchase this:

Will they ferry the aircraft or will I have to go to Sudan and pick it up?

How much would shipping and handling be?

They don't give any financing options - I'll call the guy tomorrow.

I've flown Sudan Airways before and believe it or not apart from the 24 hour delay the on board service is actually not too shabby at all.

But this is a new low for SD, it's a shame because their headquarters in KRT is quite an impressive building, if only they spent the money getting the airline operating correctly.

Wow, and I didn't think Allah even knew me.

For the B-707-300F, will they take a 2003 Ford F-150 in trade? With the F-150, they can continue their freight operations.  Wink

We are trying to send our 707 here in Sudan, the Hawaii of Africa, back to the fornocating satens in the land of the great infidel to witch it was unleashed upon the world with endless need for maintiance and hungry motors that blow hot winds of smoke and ash. Ahh yes.... An F-150 would carry many bags of government donated cheese to feed the goats! Lets do this, yes?

All that joke apart, 41,000 flying hours for a 1974 built aircraft isn't bad at all.

Better than many of NWS DC9s actually.  Wink

rotfl  24 hour delay? I get pissed at an hour delay!  Smile Nothing like on time service to that critical meeting... For the service to still be good they had better have "sexy stews" and not f/a's.  duck

Sigh... I am jealous he can afford *multiple* aircraft. Sigh...

If I thought we could raise enough to buy the plane, ferry it to Europe and then the US *after* it gets its A.net livery, I'd do it! I doubt we could raise the cash for the paint job.  cry

Its not just catering ,even Maintenance , Public Relations and Tourism.

Best of all , look at the schedules , they only mention when a plane departs and arrives back at Khartoum, it does not mention when it reaches the destination .

I see a Sudan Airways 737 at CAI every time I'm there. The planes look legitimate, and relatively new/clean/well-painted. They have a somewhat respectable looking office in downtown Cairo as well. So they SEEM okay, from the outside at least. But this whole 'P'707 thing is pretty damn funny...

Sudan Airways it the national carrier of an extremely poor country. There isn't enought money for anything, including running a world-class international airline.

My guess is that the people who run Sudan Airways are the best and brightest of Sudan.

my guess would be that you're right, but not that the best and brightest of Sudan can't figure out something like "boeing", but rather that they're smart people just getting into a very technical, complicated, globalized, and foreign-language-dominated market.

Could it be that people are willing to donate a sum equivalent to their next a.net installment to the region? (I'm not sure whether there's a functional state of the Sudan any longer)

In the arabic language there is no sound for P. Thus many people from north Africa pronounce all Ps as Bs. Now when it comes to real Bs like Boeing they get confused and spell it with a P sometimes.

I wouldn't say that's entirely correct. I've dealt with Sudan Airways and I've dealt with Sudanese people and I can tell you that there are some very bright people in that country. Unfortunately those running the airline aren't anywhere near the best or brightest in Sudan.

Furthermore it is not what I'd call an extremely poor country, in fact the number of westerners doing business out there is incredible and the revenue generated for them is immense, there is money in that country. If you ever visit the capital Khartoum as I have you will see an image of a country a million miles away from what you see on the news. Just to give you an idea they are building an exact replica of Burj al Arab, the famous Dubai hotel. So it's not a poor country, only poorly run.

CO had their 742 fleet for sale on their website a few years back (before 9/11) so I don't see what's really so bad about this.

I would doubt it. It's a state-owned carrier. State-owned anything, particularly in the Middle East, is never going to be good.

Quoting JohnStevens (Reply 27):

I agree. The Middle East has a long way to go in terms of privatization, and countries like Egypt are making good moves in that direction. There are very talented businessmen in all Arab countries, but the governments are notoriously bloated, corrupt, and inefficient. These governments like to hold onto enterprises like airlines, while over-regulating the private sector to make competition very difficult (or in Egyptian aviation, near impossible).

In SOEs, salaries tend to be very low, so all the good people work in the private sector.

So to conclude, I doubt SD is a well run carrier, because it is state-owned, and there is a miserable track record for state-owned business in the region.

Thank you for flying with Sudan Airways today. Enjoy the flight to the max, because with us you never know how long it'll take.

Please keep you seat belts fastened untill the aircraft has come to a sudden stop.

In the unlikely event of a landing on a runway, we will charge your creditcard for the 2nd time.

This is the plane they will carry the "$12,000,000,000.00 U.S. dollars" that the relative of a high-ranking official has, but needs YOUR assistance in making secure. Only with YOUR help can this occur; you need only provide YOUR bank account and all credit card details so that '12,000,000.00 U.S. dollars' can be deposited into your account in courtesy of your kind assistance."

Yes, this is what the plane will be used for.

It probably will not hurt you if you take a brief look of the actual situation in that area. Wonder if the audience would do any better than the recident people there under the circumstances, even in the cities, and with all your western education under your belt. I've been a lot more reluctant to make cheesy remarks on 2nd, or 3rd world issues since I started to ponder on that possibility.

NYCFlyer, Egypt is one of the few Middle Eastern countries that allow private airlines to operate. Egypt has 8 private airlines:
1. AMC Airline
2. PAS
3. Air Memphis
4. Lotus Air
5. Cairo Aviation and Cairo Aviation Cargo
6. Air Cairo (40% owned by private company and 60% by Egyptair)
7. Tristar Airline (Cargo)
8. and soon Orca Air

Yes the private airlines are restricted to the charter market but things are changing. Also regional airlines that operate aircraft with a maximum capacity of 50 seats, face no restrictions on where they fly to/from (like Orca Air).
