Finnair To Get ERJ170

Tue Jun 21, 2005 9:03 pm

This month's edition of Finnair's "Blue Wings" and "Lento" magazines report that the Finnish flag carrier will receive its first ERJ170 in October. The others will be delivered by 2007. It'll replace the MD80 series that should be decommissioned by the end of next year and will be used to serve domestic and EU routes together with the Airbus family. This purchase is part of AY's fleet renewal.

Wonderful news. It's great to hear that Finnair follows LOT, Alitalia and a many other airlines around the world in chosing the ERJ 170. Can't wait to get on this model.

when I read the topic I asked, isn´t that really old new?! but you´r saying about the planes deliveries Big grin
indeed great. If the E-170 performs the way it should, Finnair will have a pleasent and very happy turn with them, and might also order some E-190 to replace other planes.

The Finnair EMB-170s are rumoured quite often to be used on a new HEL-GVA route which could be launched in time for the winter season.

Very unlikely. Lufthansa has always been very sceptic about that aircraft. Although LX/LH will one day have to ask themselves how many times they wish to continue paying heavy fines to Embraer. A little bird has told me that LH is very interested in Bombardier's C series (which would replace both Avros and 737s).

With Swiss merged to LH, and LH openly critical of the 170 (ever since it used to "compete" with their darling Do-728) that is a very good question indeed!

I really wonder why LH is like that to Embraer.
The planes are out there, it´s proven to be a good one, and economicaly viable.
Why wait for a plane that have´t even began to grow?
the E-195 would indeed be a great addition to LH, and LX have them in order, if LX someday use the plane, I´m pretty sure LH will be convinced.

Well it could go out in all directions now for Swiss...
Good or bad...

The ERJ 145 is widely accepted in the Swiss fleet, so a replacement of the ARJ's in the future by ERJ 170/190 is a possibility and a good choice to maintain commonality in the entire concept.

However Swiss is no Crossair anymore and that is off course the reason why they initially cancelled the 170/190 order by half.

My biggest questions to the Emb guys;
is the 170/190 a good performer on short runways?
Better then the ARJ's?

I have seen them at Le bourget this year and I must admit that I was impressed on several factors!

LH will probably go for alternatives then the Emb's, but forcing LX to do the same would be very unwise and certainly be very un-economic.
(consider the new ERJ 170/190 simulators that arrived at the Swiss Aviation Training Center not so long ago, maybe a slight hint!)

Anyway, that's my opinion as a semi-insider!

Isn't the E170 (175 too?) the largest aircraft that can fly into LCY? I think it may be, not sure though...

*Lifts my hopes*  Wink

I hope they do get them, and wish LH would fly them too, but oh well...

The E170 is getting certified to operate there... Performance is more than OK, from what I've heard.
Don't know about the E175... it has the same double-slotted flaps than the E170. I think the E175 would be able to land in LCY, just not sure if they'll have it certified.
no commercial potential

Speaking about this plane class , remember CSA like LH ordered DO728s.
Does somebody knows when CSA will choose (if they are still in the run) a replacement for this of course cancelled order ?

This sounds like some interesting investigations!

Swiss will need the most from the future replacemets for operations on Lugano, Samedan and Sion and of course LCY!
Not that Swiss is currently dispatching aircraft to any of these Swiss regional airports,at this time, but they need to be able to operate there!
By the way, LCY is popular, but a peace of cake compaired to the Swiss regional airports! try a landing or even T/O at one of these!
