AF & GA, CDG To CGK : Can U Through Check?

Wed Jun 22, 2005 6:12 pm

I am looking at prices to fly from CDG to CGK towards end of july. AF, at least at the moment, seems to have the more interesting prices (tho some of its lowest prices are actually flights operated by KL via AMS and KUL).
The AF metal leaves CDG to SIN non stop then transfer to either Garuda or SQ.
My question is, Can I get boarding passes and seat assignment for both flights in Paris for the onward and in Jakarta for the return (thus Garuda or Singapore issuing AF SIN - CDG boarding pass ?) I am concerned especially for my return journey as I will only have 1 hour in SIN.
I assume that there would be no problem for luggage to be checked through.
Also the AF flight is still listed 77W. Do they use 773 or 772 on this route end of july/august ?
And lastly, whats the seat to get in AF 777s ?
thanks again.

AF will not issue boarding passes for SQ or Garuda, nor vice-versa, so you'll have to get new boarding passes at SIN. Baggage can be checked through however, so you should be able to get boarding passes at the transfer desk and be on your way.

One hour in Singapore is fine for connecting luggage through; and also claiming your boarding passes from the transfer desk (don't go through immigration) will take a matter of minutes. Enjoy your trip; I'll be in SIN/KUL/HKT around that time  Smile

OK, thanks. yes for bags I thought it was no problem. Only when I did transfer in SIN before flying back to France from Australia, there are apparently specific transfer desks that you need to go to (by airlines ?) and I remember just walking a while trying to find it and finding it with a long line of people. got nervous of missing the flight and also of ending up with a middle seat ! (i did not, but seats are reassigned a certain time before departure time right ? And anyway, with my fare, I dont think i can ask AF for advanced seat assignement).

Indeed, no boarding passes at CDG for your SIN-CGK sector. Luggage should be checked through without any problem, and you just head to the transfer counter at SIN. If you want an advanced seat assignment for Garuda SIN-CGK, just let me know your booking code and I'll take care of that.

Even with some reduced fares in Y you can askd for advanced seat assignement.
A firend of mine did it on both way on SFO-CDG-SFO and he had a REALLY cheap fare !

If you fly AF on CDG-SIN (B773ER) you won't have, in CDG, your boarding card for the next leg SIN-CGK... but if you are a Flying Blue FFP member, maybe you can try CDG-AMS-CGK, all with AFKL ...
You should have a cheap with KL via AMS, as AF stopped flying to CGK (and MNL) after the merging with KL.

yes indeed, I have the choice of flying on AF ticket and cheaper but going with KL CDG AMS KUL CGK. But I am not too hot about flying KL...the seat pitch I find tight and of course no IFE ! And they still use the 74M non ? not a fan of these (even though 744 remains my fave along with 777 and A330).
Thank HBIWC for the offer. I will contact you once the flights are finalized. In fact now I have a choice of Garuda (for this flight 737) or Singapore (777) for the SIN CGK. I have not flown GA in ages !
For those who know Jakarta, do you know if there is a shuttle from the airport to the main train station ?

There is a DAMRI Bus service that will bring you to Jakarta's main Gambir station for about IDR 10,000.

YOu can take the DAMRI to "Kota" station, but I wouldn't... the one to Gambir is a better bet... take the one to Blok M and U'll end up at my house!

Any other modes of transport would be rip offs... take the Damri... either that or take the Blue Bird cabs to Gambir... anything else other than those you might just throw out of the window...

thank you HB-IWC and Mandala499. so, the shuttle to Gambir is direct ? is it a shuttle that connects specifically the airport and the train station ? Is there a web site where I can get tickets for trains from Jakarta to other cities in Java ?
Also, a bit off the topic, do you guys know if foreigners can now enter via Bandurng airport and get Visa on arrival there as in jakarta ? (Or more precisely, leave and reenter via Bandung). Should it pose a problem if you leave and reenter (and getting a new visa) immediately (if I can, i may just fly to KL for 3-4 days). Still wanting to try AirAsia being the main reason.

Bandung Hussein Sastranegara Airport (BDO) has an international handling facility. Hence, you should be able to get a visa on arrival because it shouldn't be any different from any international port-of-calls in Indonesia.

Enjoy landing in BDO, it has to be one of the most picturesque ever!

I remember it was a cool airport but this was years ago... I used to live there as a kid, has the airport changed much in the past few years?

Buy you DAMRI ticket in the ticket booth in the Terminal 2 arrivals hall. The booth is located next to the 2F arrivals. That is where Garuda's domestic flights arrive. So, when you come out of the terminal after customs take a left to the 2F arrivals gate, where you'll find the DAMRI ticket booth next to the large arrivals screen. There's dedicated buses to different parts of town, and they are not supposed to make intermediate stops.

While BDO has an international arrivals facility (for Air Asia and Merpati's new Singapore flights), I am not sure whether it is a dedicated port of entry for the visa on arrival section, as those two are not necessarily the same thing. You can probably find out when you are in Bandung whether it's possible.

Oh, I did not know that Merpati now has a flight to SIN. Do you know what type of aircraft they use? Is it a daily flight ? The route in any case does not seem to be loaded on their website...

I was last in BDO in March 2004 and there were immigration counters set up in the departure hall - and this was way before Air Asia and Merpati launched their own respective international flights there. So I just assumed that BDO was no stranger to handling international flights. That said, why should it be any different from the traditional POCs like CGK, SUB, MES or DPS?

In typical Indonesian fashion, there are designated ports of entry which feature Visa-on-Arrival facilities, i.e. where passport holders of those countries that can benefit of the Visa-on-Arrival can purchase such visa. However, if citizens of those countries were to enter Indonesia through an entry port which has not been designated for Visa-on-Arrival, then said passport holder should obtain a traditional visa prior to entering Indonesia through that point.

The only question, irrespective of the presence of Immigration Facilities, is whether Bandung has been designated an entry port with Visa-on-Arrival facilities. Bandung was for sure not on the initial list of designated entry points, but could have been added afterwards.

hm I checked several embassy lists in europe and Bandung does not seem to be a VOA entry point. That said, the list has not been updated recently either.
Is there a way of finding out from here rather than waiting til I get to Bandung ? The other option that pops up is flying out and in again via Yogyakarta.
By the way, HB-IWC are you in Greece or in Indonesia ? you seem to know so much about INdonesia;

Merpati has daily BDO-SIN operations with B732. The flights would not be on the airline's website as the thing hasn't been updated for ages now.

I know that BDO was not included in the list at first, as were a couple of other gateways, some of which even had international connections at the time (Mataram Airport at Lombok Island comes to mind), but some of these gateways were later added to the VOA list. I think your best plan is to wait until you get there and just ask.

JOG would only allow you to fly to SIN or KUL on Garuda, which would be more costly than to fly out of the country on Air Asia. If BDO is not possible for VOA, you could fly CGK-KUL or SUB-KUL on Air Asia or alternatively fly CGK-BTH on one of the many airlines on that route and take the ferry to Singapore.

In typical Indonesian fashion... it's as simple as it sounds and yet can be as complicated as trying to negotiate a hostage situation.

DAMRI buses run from all terminals to various places in the city. One being Gambir... A website for train tickets? U might try the travel agency sites here but the question is, how do they get the tickets for you? U can buy the ticket on the station I think (sorry, I dun take the train here).

"I remember it was a cool airport but this was years ago... I used to live there as a kid, has the airport changed much in the past few years?"

Well, they've extended the runway, and there's a new air force hangar at the runway turnoff of txy A... apart from that, a strengthened apron and that's about it.
