Mexicana And AeroMexico Pilots Very Well Paid

Fri Jun 24, 2005 10:29 pm

Had a conversation with a Hawker pilot from Mexico. He mentioned that AM and MX captains make more than $10,000 a month. I knew they were the highest paid in Latin America, but didn't know they made that much. Just wondering if this an acurate statement. And if so, does anybody know what captains with the regionals(Aerolitoral, Aeromar) make?

USD or MXP ?, well, in both cases wrong, actually a younger pilot in MX (1-5 years in the company) makes about $1500-1900 USD, and that number raises by the time, but even the best paid pilot in MX makes about $6000 USD a month.

I heard the amount was $10,000 USD. It seemed kind of high, however that wasn't the first time that I've heard this. I heard of a similar amount from a former AM pilot, who now works for Emirates.

Hi,

$10,000 USD sounds similar to what I've heared too, but I would say another important part of the job is the extras they have, for example the airplane tickets for their families or themselves. But even if 10,000 sounds like a big amount, I know people with an engineering or administration degree earning more than that in a management position in Mexico.

In my case I have a computer science degree from the Tec de Monterrey campus Guadalajara. But, instead of looking for a job related to software development, I'm studying for commercial pilot and leaving the engineering as a back up even if I I won't make that much money as a pilot, it's simply funnier hehe Big grin

Cheers,

Carlos

Again wrong.

Lesser seniority pilots make more than 2,500 USD a month straight to their pockets; so add taxes, union fees, parking, etc that are deducted from directly from payroll.

I know captains who make more than 8,000 USD a month plus incentives for acting as check pilots and/or having administrative duties.

Some captains are also in the administration of MX, that´s why they can make that amount (incomes combined).

Also you have to add union fees, tickets, and other incomes, but the salary they get is about $6000 USD.

$10,000 USD a month seemed kind of high, but you know how pilot rumors tend to circulate.

Trust me! Big AM pilots are doing 12-15,000USD a month (all incomes included)! And big MX pilots do something near 12-14,000USD.

But compared that to AM's CEO APB - Alfonso Pasquel Barcenas is nothing, when we has running the admin. he was getting 60,000USD a month, on the other side, Fernando Flores was doing 50,000USD a month. Ignore what's Perezalonso or Romano's current pay checks but I'm sure thery're not that far from APB and FF.

In fact, we are under paid, we should get paid even more than this. Way more!

I also think crews at CINTRA and the rest of the mexican carriers are under paid. If you compare mexican crews with US or Canadian crews and you see fares are sometimes even higher at Mexican carriers or even worst seeing lower fares and people in the north getting better paid! Certainly something there is not working properly.

Yes; the country.
Today I learnt that 5% of the population has access to air travel. More people flying, more jobs, more money. What's the percentage in the US and Canada I ask.

Jaja, good one, you are very well paid for Mexican standards...

Fares are higher because CINTRA carriers (AM and MX) have very low load factors (Around 60%). Airlines like B6, WN, HP, FR, U2, etc. have load factors of around 80% or more. In order to compensate the 40% of empty seats AM and MX have in each flight, they have to have high fares.

Agree on this one, but for International standards things aren't what they should.

Correct! And here's were I can't understand to myself why this stupid mentality from CINTRA carriers! Lower fares and increase LF to 80s,90s,100s!!! Planes will have to burn the same fuel... and crews will need to be paid one way or another!

but then again, that applies to every profession. Those numbers show that pilots do pretty good in relation to other Mexican professionals(at least 4 year college education). Of course they aren't paid as much as they would in the US, but nobody is. If anything a Mexican pilot is closet to a US pilot than say a Mexican surgeon vs. a US surgeon.
