I am a member of BA
's frequent flyer program "Executive Club".
In the past few years I have done quite a bit of traveling on Oneworld airlines, and of course got rewarded with a fair amount of miles as well.
In March I have started a grand tour of South east Asia which is due to be completed next week. I am holding a reservation for a Cathay Pacific flight from Bangkok to vancouver via Hong Kong. The initial plan was good. I was planning a grand finale for my journey in the form of an upgrade to Business or first class in Cathay with my BA
miles. It turned out to be a complete mess.
My first step was a visit to the BA
's city office in Bangkok where I have inquired the sales person about a possibility of an upgrade. That person told me that she cannnot do anything about it (why not?) and that my best bet would be to call the North American BA
's center. I asked her why a BA
office in BAngkok cannot do it and her answer was "I just sell tickets, you want one?". Hmmm, if an airline is offering a service which in this case is FFP, so why an official airline office cannot help you.
Ok, fine I have called the 1 800 number which is mentionned at the back of the card where I was told that "yes, an upgrade is possible, could you call us back next week? " (why , again?). Called them back next week and may be 10 times after that (because they asked me to) and all I got at the end was "I'm sorry we have nothing available, but you can keep calling us as often as you want we could have an opening anyday". The clerk at the North American office could not answer my question as to why the Bangkok office refused to help me.
Well, to tell you the truth until this day I thought BA
was the best airline out there for me. It still is. Their in flight product is great. But why can't they be consistent if you want with their excellence in everything they offer? I mean I hear people saying all the time "I have plenty of miles , but I just don't get a chance to redeem them!". Everytime you are being told that what you are asking for is sold out or unavailable... What is the point?
